Frozen Finals Recap | Episode 65

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

On this week's episode of the #EShow we recap the 2021 #EHLFrozenFinals, which gave us a truly unforgettable week in West Chester, PA. Top performances were delivered throughout the EHL and the EHLP, ultimately concluding with a pair of new champions. For the Boston Jr. Rangers, their EHL title symbolizes the 'Unfinished Business' that carried over for them from the 2019-20 season. Along those same lines, the New Jersey 87's victory in the EHLP brings everything full circle for their organization, earning their first-ever championship in the division where it all began for them back in 2017. The #ECrew breaks things down day-by-day for the event that we'll be talking about for a long long time, and begins to slowly turn the page for the 2021-22 season.

Well, you know, that's a little question deal. But yes, don't feel better than we did probably this time last week when we were all turning and burning around. What's Today? Today is Saturday. Yes, so, yeah, it was Peja. Yes, yes, recording, recording this on Saturday April three, posting it on Sunday the fourth, which I know it's also easier, but a week removed from championship Sunday. So one of the kind of get it out there about a week or so after everything went down. I'll tell you this guy's and Vicky can attest to this. I was pretty crumpy the day after the championship. I think it was pulling in my driveaway at about forty five am which caused the grumpiness. Well, thank you for dropping myself off first, and then Brittany Hart Mui. You were yeah, thank you. Average driving through rain to get us all back on championship Sunday and we live. The storm was brutal. Ray. Here's a very got to. I stopped somewhere. Well, like waited a half hour. So when y'all Duze, Vicky, that's our fault. When you're driving and you could see what you're driving into, it is the worst feeling in the world. Like we saw it and I was like we're going right at that, and like it just slowed us down for the first three hours. Once we got through New York into Connecticut, it was like it was basically clear sailing at that point. But the first map we dropped Joe Britannia off the airport, our clouds were like, are we traveling into those or those? Yes, but I will say this guy's we're about two minutes in or so so far on this year's end of the season review and it's already six thousand times better than last season's end of the season review. We finished. The heavens because we finished, because we finished. So let's start making your way around the east show. We're going to break down last week and chroniclog chronological order. It's time for this week segment of around the east show and around these shows brought to you by the junior hockey podcast Du over junior hockey news, knowledge and nonsense. Check them out of tjg podcastcom. I will have to give Vicki credit one more time. It did take me almost eleven hours to get down there, from when I left my door to where we got down there, because we didn't make a few different stops on the way down. But I will say this. I think going down on Monday was our best decision that we could have made because it gave us enough time to prep yeah, we were been if it makes sense, we would have been more burnt out had we knocked on down earlier. I think I think so. Yeah, I think so. We got down there, we settled ourselves. When figure it out. On Music Jams of the we want a Howkey on soundcloud been rocking some howkey since I came back and we'll check them out. And then, of course, the team's arrived on Tuesday and it was what my favorite part, I thought it is they were like so happy to see each other, like dor in the hotel, like they were just so happy to see each other, with the fist bobs and like big smiles, so great to see you. It's like in about twenty four hours or forty eight hours you're all going to hate each other. I feel like, you know, all like each other when the week is over. But when they when they first all right, they were like ecstatic about being there, which is awesome, right. We all...

...had drinks like a big happy family that each night some guys just disappeared and didn't hang out anymore. Before it is like just the staff, because we're all still friends and we're not fighting each other on the ice. But you know, and then we get to we get today one, we get to the first game, lumberjacks rangers and of course, because of the year that it is and, as Kyle always says, expect the unexpected, the first shot of the tournament goes in past the goaltender of the year, who had just been named that hours before. We had recorded the show the night before obviously posted on that Wednesday. I mean the first shot goes in. Yeah, what's looking so good for these like what the heck? The eventual champs? On Day One, Wednesday, we weren't sure if they were going to get the championship. Sunday that we thought, Oh, here comes the CINDEREAL. Surprised your Mosso in the promote lumberjacks. What a crazy game. Yeah, well, I mean I still get half Shag whistle gate. No, that game was not my favorite game, and that's the tea. I mean, what was it like in because, I'm say, I was up in the restaurant press box area, but even when he scored that goal, like you could tell like it kind of was just like Oh snap, like a kind of shook everyone osy atmosphere, like for you guys. I don't think I ever ask you guys. I think it felt like the tournament finally started, because that was almost, I mean I got to pull it up right now. That was almost, I want to say like two and a half minutes in, or almost a minute, saying like it took a while for anyone to get a shot off and obviously, whenever there's big games there's that kind of feel you out moment in the beginning where teams are still getting to know each other. I guess you could say, and we know that the lumberjacks and Rangers had not played this season. But yeah, that goal was two minutes and thirteen seconds and that was the first shot. Like no one got like a dump in on goal before that or like it's a wrap around goalie touches it, like that was the first chance. That a goal we had at wars anything and they'll following that goal. I know rich is going to jump all over this. Like the Rangers dominated most of that game. I think it woke them up. You can say you, I think, and it must have right. It's them awful little bit and of course I don't have the official number in front of me. I know the lumberjacks two seasons ago. Now I have to say two seasons because we finished this year. That last team had twenty age outs on it, so it was kind of a new group for this season. For the Rangers there was more of a core that came back for this season and I'm not too well and I don't like Bailey Melnd drew cue all to play with each other, that we're on the EHL team last year, but still we're within the system. If you yes, and I wish, I wish, I would we could have a mic, they're on the bench to hear if it was one of those guys that said after that goal like all right, like now, are we ready? Like now can we start? Because after that it felt like the ice went like this for the majority of that game up until obviously we hit around the seven minute mark and then hell kind of froze over and thanks, thanks turn the other direction, but put it do. But like I mean, for the majority of that game that the razors. Then after that goal was all them and you, I don't know if you remember, I remember. Look it over and see him rich kind of he was kind of frozen at first. Just kind of looked at the ice. After the first school by the Lomberjacks, was like hmm, and then just kind of kept walking up and down the bench. was like all right, we got our else, we got ourselves a week here. Let's go. Yeah, and like when you get through these bottles, like I've had people reached out to me and say, like have you had a chance to look back at the numbers from this. So the numbers from that, like I didn't realize, like until I had a chance to step back and see how many views the videos that trevor blackbird made, how many views they truly got, like in the moment there's so much going on that you can't like acknowledge what's taking place. Right. Joey shaffer had a natural hat trick in that game. He did, he's it was natural. He scored three goals in a row and like we didn't even notice that. Jeff had I was like, hold on,...

...hold on, speak for yourselves, Naddy had. He said, we do, have we I said, Jeff, yeah, he's laving me. My fault. No, I'm saying me and Jeff. I know what about it. Mention the hat trick a bunch of times, but I didn't realize it was a natty Haddie, that's that's dude. You realize that one goal was shorthanded, one goal was even strength and one goal was power play? Wow, yeah, you really said I am a king, like I didn't even notice that. Why? I've it was just like art, Rangers take ranchers tie it up, Rangers take the lead. Rangers extend the lead. How many hat tricks have there been in junior hockey where guy's got a shorty of powerplay and even strength of one game? That's ut what we're gon. WE'RE gonna get to Friday. WE'RE gonna get to Friday. Good Yuck. Well, get to Friday and the six to five, crazy eighty seven slumberjacks game. You know Paul finally he's had a hat trick in that game. MMM, I don't even know if I called it. I think we had four or five hat tricks over the week. It felt like that. Mattricks. It felt like that and obviously there was a there was a sequence in that game that took place that I've gone back and I've watched that. Also. I can't even identify what the noise is like it. It sounds like a whistle for sure, but everybody in the entire rake stops, YEP, including US, quitting up, and I was like that was a whistle right, because everyone pulled up and there was like the referees just like Nope, wasn't us like go ahead, and R mom was like, okay, we'll keep playing breakaway. Thanks. See You. That really that pass up ice is almost as crazy as the past. That one the whole thing at the end of the week. The stretch pass, the diagonal pass, the Nathan Miller Pass. Yes, but like it wasn't e the Miller did it. But anyone that watch the frozen finals all week that was his. He made a living all season long. That was yes, wait to you hear what watch. Wait to hear what rich said about that. We're going to get to that one. Well, obviously the backhand pass goes up. I think, I be believe it was Garnon who collected it. Scores the game tie and goal, even though at that point it tied the game, it felt like at that point the lumberjacks were destined to win, because everything that was going this way for the Rangers then went the other direction for the lumberjacks and they had all the momentum. And well, Kyle was asking about the atmosphere. Hire to right, Neil, as far as that was our first real atmosphere of the season like, well, like when Lu Joseph Green on scored that Breakawaggal, that plays lit up. It was shaking people, banning, the parents, being Tim Overmon. Well, and he's like that was the first time we but I think it helped them. I think they felt the lift to you could see Jimmy and Jack Walking on the bench with their jacks, you know, just sitting there forget. Everyone was like yeah, we were all like, I was getting chills. Everyone was like, well, that was the loudest I've think I've heard a building and over a year. Right, it has to be. And and we had it. We've already had a board of governors call since the finals ended. and Oh yeah, it was the day after, two days after. Thank God it wasn't Monday. Monday would have been if I got home Monday am at like almost three am and then had to go on an eight am call. How I would have needed the bean bag for that one. Did you compile? Have to do it? Mr That was yes, that was two thousand and seventeen, but was if we had what on Tuesday morning, because I'm bringing this up because the owner of the lumberjacks, Maurice Rosalie, said he came down for the trip. Obviously he was there all week. He basically his one of his takeaways from the finals was that it was the first time he's felt normal and a while. Like in that building like mass were on. We would you guys, heard that censor if you walked in without a mask on the the voice of love you said. She's like please wear am masks. We wear masks like so, but carplay. But in terms of in terms of the people in the building, like I agree with Maurice, like it felt, for the first time in forever, like normal. And then off of that...

...point, the the reaction to that goal that made it three three made it feel even more more normal. And right in, the finals are here like they started. Obviously the lumberjacks make it for three at an emptying that are late. And Yeah, I mean we set it right then and there when we were wrapping up that game. The revolution in two thousand and seventeen and eighteen lost their first game of the finals and still made it to the championship game. I have to give the Rangers all the credit in the world, because I don't think the revolution lost in the same way where the rangers felt like they deserved to win that game based off of the way that they played throughout. How they want to credit for that. You know, that's all, my God. How they say more than deflating loss that's a you have to have the turn it around like that, you at you have to take that sat like that. Yep, and like you have to go to bed and you have to wake up the next day and think whatever. That game is over now. Essentially what playing the regular season champions like now? Essentially what it what it turned into for them were three elimination games. They had to be the eighty sevens, it had to beat the avalanche and then a championship game. Is it championship game? So essentially turn into three elimination games in a row once they dropped game one, and Richard said that to us at the award show. You know, nothing can be one on day one. Was, I think was his exact wording. But nothing can be lost on day one either. You can just put yourself in a really good standing and they didn't put themselves in a good standing and obviously they thought they were wronged. You know, they had their gripes with the you know, won't get into the whistle gate specifics, but yeah, I think whistle gate. Looking up on twitter, it's trending. If you have back so well, then obviously so. Like everyone's going to have their gripes when it comes to the playoffs and that was a very strange seven minutes and there was a lot of things that went against their way. But Hey, credit to them. They were deep team, they were talented, but not only were they talented, they showed that they had skill on multiple levels. Right. The resiliency fact what you just said. Three Elimination Games and you just go against the cream of the property set, regular season Champs, the last the reigning two time champions that are no longer that's not easiest schedule to go through. But rich in the boys and Keith and Mike's or Belle, they deserve a lot of credit. They got quite the program up there and Tewkesbury and that was the second matchup. That was the second match of Seven S and avalanche, and I know the avalanche jumped out to a three nothing to lead, and that helps, but I think taking a step back and and decompressing and looking at it more, I think the fact that the avalanche scored first and scored so early had to help them feel like, all right, yes, we got here as as some have called it, the charity team. That was one term I heard over it over the week. But they were the at large but I think by scoring that early, that quickly, I mean they were two hundred and fifty eight in for that lumberjacks. They were two and thirteen athles for two hundred and fifty eight. By scoring that early, that quickly, I feel like they then realize, okay, we can be here, we deserve to be here. Yeah, they were like, Oh shoe, we just did that. And then I think after that it was like the turning point in Jimmy's game when they hit, did that whole whatever you want to call it, and then Chris is team was like all right, we'd get up. We were our office was next to their locker room and they come in the locker room every after every period, guns blazing like you would have oh my God, those people are fired the heck. They were ready to go and they came in the locker room they were like, I mean, I don't know if I should say he said words. Well, hold the excellence. Yeah, I was like, Oh my God, great songs they played the Rocker Room. Thank you for some new songs by class. But they're all like like, you know, screaming, like who are insert here, and they are just being like well, they're fired. No,...

I love that. Thank you. Have Lynch Blue Blue a few fuses. Also on your hair dryers. As it's dry. Those skates, you know, I'll just leave wet. It's good for they had so much going on. And then that locker room that every time I walked in my computer was off because the power had been blown out of that whole entire wall. It's like, Chris Kyle, what are you gonna saying on the dark, like you know, as you like, or I probably just sat turn didn't speak. And then they didn't school over. They scored. They scored at the very end of that first period. Also, right arrands made it to nothing, and then they scored in the very beginning of the second period, and I think that's maybe when the eighty sevens woke up a little bit. We're like all right, guys, like yeah, we had a great season, but we can't come over to the finals and just lay an egg like we're down three nothing here. We kind of have to show up or go away now, like. But it keep me avalanche forever to be down in a game deal. I think it was. Yeah, it was a to championship Sunday when they look until it took until Friday they would never be jr game. That's what it was. It took UN till Friday and for the eighty seven's they start mounting a comeback and I know Jeff said it on that broadcast period. That's second freaking period. Maybe it was John Gabriel first and then Matthew was kinsel second. That made it. Made it three too. So maybe that's what it takes sometimes to wake a team up, is not having your your primary scorer score. You get your secondary guys that score. I mean the first eighty seven goal. will go back and watch it. Some point Gabriel just throws the towards the net and he was as concerned. heree owner on the goal line like it hits something, bounced over here, ends up in the top corner. Okay, goal like. I guess that's how we get on the board and that whole game plays itself out. And I know Chris Russo said this, but the fourth goal. Kept being so critical. Right. The fourth goal was the game winner and the Lumbridge Acts Rangers game, the fourth goal in the avalanche seven s game came about a minute and it or two minutes, and I had two and a half or a minute and a half after the eighty seven to just cut it down two, three, two, and the fourth goal in the ABS eighty seventh was not a Shanko right. And then they made it five to and then that woke up the eighty seven is to start coming back again. And I know I'm going to say this when we get to Thursday as well, but for the eighty seven's they make it five for with about twenty nine seconds left. I'm sure in New Jersey felt like if they had two or three more minutes in that game, they come all the way back and tie things up at five piece. I could almost guarantee they would knew that that was that second period horn came at the absolute worst time. They were all feeling that they were buzzing. The chemistry was there. The big guys were starting to have good shifts. Like you said, it took a while for Kase suit and Tim to board, and you know the TERREMONI's and swains the world took a while for them to really get going in that tournament, unfortunately, and I think that was there. You know that. And timely goaltending. Obviously the timely goaltending the Kopack, connor revolving door. You know that that really ended up being the backbreaker for them too. And that was day one, right, like, I know that the lumberjacks one with an empty netder, right, but you know how I feel about empty leaders. I just whatever they were. Yeah, can I look at us as to one goal Games on day one. So we're feel we're feeling pretty good going into going into day two. What game do we start with? Day Two? We started with eighty seven's and rangers, right, Sevens Rangers. Yes, yeah, yeah, guys, the boys, you lot of zaps verbers jacks at night. Yes, so the game. We get to eighty seven's rangers. Now, day two, and like the storyline all morning that we're saying to each other was this was the matchup that we want. It we thought would be one and all versus one. And Oh, all of a sudden it's Allen one versus Owen one, and it's play for your lives. Ye, women,...

...you actually give yourself a chance. Don't win a big hikes. That was crazy. Like, I must win for both the last two regular season championship teams on Day two. And we nice. We said that because they were the one and two seats going in and L two two thousand and twenty one. Man, keep reading us. You compare it to these and to the ABS and lumberjacks, and obviously the lumberjacks were playing well going in, but the NABS weren't, and they were the three in the four seats. That's they were when they went in. And all try us calling him underdogs and the use that. You know. Then all of a sudden they get then the sevens find themselves in the same three nothing whole once again. HMM, but this time it was against the Rangers and not against the avalanche, and they started making a similar comeback and probably the same thing. You add another five minutes or so towards the end. Maybe they tie things up. I know they had a chance right before the Rangers Empty Nedder, I think, when Miller was hugging the post, that that he stopped. And then this all got an empty net goal with like three seconds left, which almost became a factor. Will get to that. A second goal differentially. Say that what was like, but you know, I know it's another five three game with an empty nutter, but I call it another one goal game. Really that was and all of a sudden now you get to the nightcap on Thursday and the number one seed in the tournament the regular season champions. So I would have bleached my hair for if they had won. Right there. They're alway, they're owing to anil is, like think. Gosh, well, I mean I think, yes, I forget, Bosh, I forget who it was, but someone said, are you're going to like, if you're going to please your hair? Are you going to like grow out the beard and like do it the whole way around your face? I don't know. I don't know if I could. I don't know. I think that this bet should have applied to the P team. I was thinking of that too. Britto. Haha. So the seven didn'tffect. Well, we'll get you know what I'll do? I'll do I'll do as cross and tips. I'll do it strip like some of them did, but I'll tripped down, doesn't Rachel Julia? Well, she was, she was going to do it. She would. She was gonna do it on the day of opening day next season, but at down to Jersey. Just get up. Make I'll make the same bet with whatever team wins the regular season title next season. No idea who that will be, but we get to the NIGHTCAP. Could be the Hosses, who knows, could be good. Oh my God, we get to the NIGHTCAP and honestly, like you forget it because you look at the final score and you see nine hundred and twenty three, right. But it wasn't until the third period when that happened, like, or I should say late second period when it really started to pull us off away, because the lumberjacks came back to make it for to with about three minutes or so less in the second period. Yeah, and we said to each other, you and I, Jeff, like we're buckle up, like here we go, typical lumberjacks, like I think. Well, being down, I think he's asked more so that on the show, like you guys can fall behind three nothing the sea coast but come back and win the game. Right, like this is where they want to be. Now it plays itself out that the avalanche make it five to six, to seven, to eighty two and and a runaway with it. But like what an anomaly? Right, because they played eleven times during the Ray our season. How many of those went to overtime? How many times the lumberjacks win down the stretch? That that game. Pretty sure at the end of the regular season it was six hundred two five avalanche. Yes, because Marie said that to me at one point. You're correct, as the called man, I looked that up and that is correct. And so then the lumberjacks going into that game, or like, if we win this, it's six to six, the lumberjacks were one...

...and all in the round, Robert I. We get to that game and they were what he and speaking of that season series, the lumberjacks took the last, I think three street and the avalanche had won the beginning of the series of the year, which was way many, many moons ago. So the pressure thing in both teams minds was lumberjacks winning a few street against them on both all. I mean, I don't know, I just wasn't shocked by the avalanche's performance. Kylie, the only one checking. Yes, you team. It's a whole new animal seasons, borderline. You weren't shocked. Okay, I get that, but you could not have predicted they won by six goals. Oh, I thought that if anybody was going to win by six goal though, was not gonna be the NHA, that's for shre not no fense, but now it was obviously shot. I was thinking the ball. I scoring game at well, we got we got to get to that crystal ball. We're getting as we keep working our way through the week. Way To you hear the last Crystal Ball? Oh Yeah, then of course the night ends anything. I don't want what you got. You know. You know, boy, for this Thursday. I'm just saying, you know, we're the I was was just good team. We're like, yeah, they got a lead and that was that was kind of it. I think that was our their key to success. I think they were better than I thought. I don't know. I think I feeled up the whole you finally play somewhat while I game. That game was the North Pitt the first game. You come out guns blazing and her like Oh shoe. They didn't have the didn't have like that MVP kind of guy that we talked about all the time on the podcast. But like they just stay at the depth scoring and I think Mike Michael is one of the best players. Reason belief. He turned. He turned back onto the Georgie Mcmichael that we saw all season. That was just lights of so they win those games right on Wednesday and Thursday, the twenty four and twenty five of March. I don't know if you guys heard me say this, but do you know when their previous most recent win before that was February eighteen each over a month before like they had gone a month of time. Obviously didn't pay a lot of games, but how do you go a month of time without winning a hockey game to all of a sudden now you've won two in a row? And you guys remember Thursday night? Thursday night became let's ask Neil what the gold differential is like. Rick, I think rich asked me, but the five or six different scenarios and like yeah, I'd my phone was blowing up a couple of what do we need to do? What is what? And I'm like, Dude, I am just as cool as as you. Math will leave meeting forte like, I don't know. There was a sevens. I can't as we signed off, we said we're going to go get some paper and some pens of bent are drawing some equations on the Board. So I mean what made it interesting was that the tiebreaker for gold differential, if it got to that, for for everyone to know at home, it only factored in the games with the teams that you were tied. So while we had a six goal margin in there, there was a chance that that game wouldn't be a factor. And then you look at the other games and it was two goals, two goals and one goal. Well, when it's that close you kind of have to really go in depth about we may have to win this game by a two goal margin. And that's what the eighty seven said of themselves going into Friday, because even though you went to bed Thursday night thinking we're Owen to New Jersey, knew that if they beat the lumberjacks by two goals and then got some help, they still had a chance. And that was the first game on Friday. Eighty seven versus lumberjacks, and I don't and a half, you know, taped it. Take the championship game out of it, right, you know, looking at just the six round robbing games, that might have been one of the best. That's the best game, like the back back and forth, a task and forth, and like looking we're going to release the top plays after we do the podcast on Sunday. Like there's two goals from that game. I think both Oh, sorry, there's three goals. Three of the ten top plays of the frozen finals come from that...

...game. Like you go back and you watch the first goal and the past that Belinsky makes to vaness. He's not even looking where he's throwing the past. He's never got a great shot of that because you saw that right the back of the boot, behind the back, back hand passed it. All of a sudden this goes to the slot and it ends up ran this stick. That's the first goal of the game. School was Gross, good, Yuck, yeah, but uncredible. The best part about it, pretty is you were walking around to get for your interview and you see him score on the hockey TV feed and all of a sudden your speed cranks up because you want to get over there a little bit faster now and get ready to do right. I'm like, Oh my God, I'm my Goda, got on my guard, a power over there. Let's go. Let's go like it like hits you. One point, like the way that I needed to get over to the benches of folks out home, like I could a go through the locker rooms and locker rooms was abvalanche rangers in a connecting room and then eighty sers are down on their old planet. At one point, I don't remember what game, I was running through the locker room and like the door locks behind you. Okay, you can't come back in and let you knock, and I thought it was just the avalanche kids in there and I was like, Oh my God, yeah, they are not playing until the next game. And then I'm running through the Bjr Lock Room in the middle of in between periods and I'm like, Oh my God, thanky is in there. He would have yelled at me, but I was like, Oh, oh, sorry, I gotta go. Please don't look at me, I'm just gonna Bolt through here. And it was yeah, there were a lot of codes and a lot of keys. Why? It's kind of it's kind of a fort it's kind of a fortress down at ice line, kind of a freak. Great. Then you though, all it's a bins, Jim bins, thank you for having us. The GM of ICELIDE. He was great, the staff was great, the arena was accommodating, it was it was all this perfect so so to that game, though, because then the eighty seven and up to nothing. I think the lumberjacks came back and tied it up like I think I haven't asked that as the third play like that, given go play that Schmidt had with finally's like Twas just disgusting, like that was worthy of being the top play of the week. And the whole thing plays itself out, and I said it on my call of all guys, to score the game winner for the eighty sevens, it's seems, sent through Yello. He was a late incurshued. I was near tears, like like just tears of I am proud of my little prodigy, like I was almost crying, like straight up, no lie. I was like this is how keep in mind he did not play in the first two games. Adam plays him in the last round robin game. That's how he end his junior career. Scores a game one of seventh grated. They did not make it to the final, but even though that was the saddest victory I've ever seen in my life, still what a way if well, and we still don't have any teams go over, which is always we I was, I mean I was the best target for every team won a game and that was the first time in frozen finals history that we have that right. But, like I don't want it. I should go back for a second, because the eighty seven's made it a five three game and they knew they had to win by two to give themselves a chance. But three, three, I'm really shore. Two would have made a tie, would have pushed us to an even deeper tie breaker, but three would have avoided a deeper tiebreaker. There was a safe maid in that game by Aden La Valley with an empty net. Remember that? And then the longer jet sundown in the valley. The audacity, yes, and and there was they more live the day before. Yep, they made it five four and then five five. And then another moment that you forget about is there was a point where Mosso and Julie had gotten probably as close as you can get to the end of the bench and I we couldn't tell what Jimmy was saying to Adam, but Adam kind of did one of those like I don't know, Jim, I don't I don't know. Jim had both want to pull the book. goalies also said let's...

...both do it, because they said I said that the Justin. I was like you imagine, but I was like there's no way, like I thought we were going to have a double goalie pull for a second day because, well, while the sevens had to win by, you know, two or three to give themselves a chance, the lumberjacks are one and one and they win that game and there are a better spot than the eighty sevens are in terms of a potential tiebreaker with the rain. Cher's right, because if it had been just the lumbridge Jacks and Rangers tied, they go because they beat them on day one we almost saw a double goalie pull, which that was already the best game of the week of the Round Robin. If that moment had happened, cancel, get canceled, ress of the week. That I would have been done. Would have been on sports center top ten plays with job butcher. Gross you to be like, check this out, guys. Junior hockey in the HL, two goalies pulled too empty nets and you know what would have happened? Right Electric they would have pulled both goalies and know what? Have scored? Of course they would have been. Everyone just diving all over the place, long bodying all of the place. Deal is one. I forgot about that that we boty you. We learned in new term down there because it I just never knew what you called it when the defense been stretched out on the ice to block a pass, and according to rich it's nowhere on the Internet, but he calls it a long body, when you extend your body and making a want long as you can to block the pass. So that game ends and all of a sudden now we're in the last game and the eighty seven have become enormous avalanche fans, right or they they wanted to become enormous avalanche fans. That they had scored one more goal. Of That's when that tie breaker would have would have taken place. The lumber check. They said, let's go out something both hung around yes second and the lumberjacks were the ones that wanted the APPs to win also because that would have created that tap potential tie for them that they could have pushed their way past the Rangers. But, like we said before, the Rangers knew they had to win. I believe Andy Moore had both goals in that game. The first goal was a gross snipe, gross type, and that was the game of the actually, the avalanche played Ronan Mobli and, like you know, you wasn't he made some great tapes like that. Kid is good. That kid is very good. Topic, like it's not like Christians like. Well, let's go to our stuck in string goalie who sucks like. Well, no, no, no, you don't. You have as much confidence in him as you do in George. It's diving sea. That's time top like the team. They could play whoever they wanted to and they're still just going to be an yeah, they were deep too, just like Boston was. I think Chris Elison, with that performance, blways coming back next year. Yeah, that's and goes. He just played himself on to the team next year. That was unbelievable. Like, I can try it right. We're literally George's gone. He's going to Bowden and you need another goalie. Maybe it's mobili's net next year. Maybe bring someone else in for some competition, but have one familiar face back. There's going to be big for them to start off. He he just got named captain. I'm so. I'm also so searence to Higgins. There is one of his saves as a top play. You can you all know which save that was where? I don't even know how he's still he stopped. I think it was young on the side of the goal and I think Mobili as a good goalie to but what was astound about his stats going into that game, the final game of the Round Robin on that team, he had a record of eight. I know I noticed that and it just it just didn't make sense. And that game plays itself out and they just didn't score when he played the net. Yeah, and the avalanche almost win that game, right, they almost spoiled the Rangers season. They almost well, almost won that game. And you take it all, bunch of guys up. They'd only do they have McMichael, they had Aaron's out, Yep, they had mcgin out, they had who else was it? They had like three or four being guys. And get him play either. I don't think bothering him in. ALC corn went...

...in. Alcorn was really good, following him at the goal there. We said it. It was just a one of them got a goal. That was US debating back and forth. These guys are fighting to being a lot up on Sunday right was Malco and Sandag will last like too, for it's kind of the eleventh and twelve forards. We knew once the seven s game ended with the score that it was at the avalanche were in and right we didn't know how they would respond to that. I think in that moment, seeing them play it out as hard as they did shows that they realized, like, we can't just roll over in this game because we can't then flip the switch back on on Sunday. So they played hard enough, hard enough to win in that game and for three round Robin Days, and you take away the nine hundred and twenty three score and you take away my empty netters, as I like to say. Right five of the six games were one goal contest, high scoring affairs to like, but goalie still like good performances. We had to keep explain that to people like bakers were going to box score and see that this team won five before or six to five and say that this goalie sucked. He didn't. He had forty one saves and a lot of them were, you know, of the high end diving across the paint varieties. It's possible and it was shown there by all the goalies were. Doozy played his butt off. Did that kid deserves a lot of credit. He does. He did. He made some saves that probably deserve to be in the top ten plays. Yeah, but there were just so many high right highlight real goals scored that I didn't have the chance to put everything in right. Typically we are taught our top player five place by five. There was enough there to fill up fifteen or twenty, but I I landed on ten because ten kind of the generic good number, right. I think the best thing about this year's finals compared to the previous two years is we gave those Eh Shel teams a day off on Saturday, right, and it just helped get out pe teams. Here we go. Those needed help build the hype because, of course, in a year where on this podcast we talked about the rangers and ABS so much early on because going under the season, it was they were still the two top dogs, right, but then you saw the eighty seven's and the lumberjacks and the express emerge and start the push the top a little bit, and then we get our way through the round robin and of course who does it come down to? The Rangers in the ABS again. So let's build the hype up. Let's build the hype up over Saturday, which became p day and we didn't know what to expect going into that the seven win game one three nothing and the railers went up three nothing like instantly in game two. If you remember, that's when the lumberjacks started to fight their way back do their lumberjack thing. Yes, and the best interview of the entire weekend. We've been free Freeman, I think. I love this one. I think what made him so nervous was that's what we started doing the interviews closer to where Jeff and I were standing for twenty two years. OL plays, so right in front of the box. The entire EHL team is around this kid with their phones out, every single lot of them. I would get nervous too if I'm if I'm seventeen, I don't even holds and I wasn't even the one answering the damn questions. Me and neal were dies. I'm trying to figure out who I'm doing the interview with. Then all of a sudden it's like Paul finally camage a belt and whoever knows who out and Monday and Infantino there's come storming at me in their Britt and I'm like yes, how can I help you right now, like what do you want? And they're like you have to interview this kid that you literally have to do it. Like please, for the love of God, just do it. I was like, all right, final, I'll do I don't care. So instant go get them, get the kid, tell them comments. Its time to shine, and then they were all fired up. It was a funniest thing of my life. They were a...

...good goal by him too, and he was an insertion because of the first game. Unfortunately they lost the HLP for of the years, so we're worse into a knee injury. They lost a bunch of guys in that first game. So the second game they had to put a bunch of guys in and they battled, you know, they fought in. Freeman was one of them. We're glad he got his visit. He's a two thousand and three. Well seven shis seventeen years old. That was his first point of the of the year. Right Baby Verba, like, Oh my God, so calls right as Reebo, we miss you. So I get it. I get the nerves team. Obviously they the lumberjacks pipe back to make it three two. Then the railers pull away make it six to to give everyone at home an idea of what took place after that. This was the biggest form at the EH LP was ever going to have for the finals. The previous two finals years that we were able to complete included just an EHLP championship game. So the two conference has played things down so that one team went from each conference. So year one it was junior flyers versus rangers and then the year two it was little fires versus wolves. So this season and two handsomes on that wolves pep. Remember, Yep, I have a game and and this season was going to be the biggest format ever. And the day plays itself out now that we already had had an extra hour booked in between the first two games. In the second two games, one hour each for each ehl team to practice. And then they wound up practicing together together. That's a whole. It's a whole different conversation, whole different podcast. Others shot night shows backup goalies. was like what, yeah, you know what, so funny. That shows you how much they respect each other, honestly. So then we end the second game, we know we already have at least an hour and a half because there's no team practicing and the two games had taken place so quickly that there's a break there. We bring both of the eighty sevens and railers in to now, basically this point, the third game. For people who are like what the heck are you talking about, the third game would have been eighty sevens will stir, and we know that eighty seven's wish it was going to be the championship game. So're like, why on planet Earth Are we going to play this game at seven pm when both teams have already played one game? You know what, I have to be back. Yes, we know what time it was. You know what time it was when we had that meeting. It was almost five fifteen. Oh, like, we would have had to sit there for almost two more hours. Sell remember we were having dinner. We were literally finished our dinner. We be like up, we're like five. We would have been five minutes away from puck dropper and you know, that game would have like on to overtime, to like, you know, I ken't say I use the word overtime so much all week because I wanted over time. For some reason I just needed overtime, but I obviously gave gave gift. Both teams credit right. They recognize that they were the championship matchup. They realize what's the point of fighting for last change? Right? The railers said to the sevens, you would a better record in the railer season. You deserve last change tomorrow. They were going to have last games in that round Robbin game anyways. No reason to play out as a sixty minute game for one factor towards the championship game. So that's sets. It's sets the table now for Sunday and we get to that game first. And that was a great ehlp championship game. I know, I know, it wasn't a one goal game, but it was. How one point the railers fought their way back made it. I want to say only shot. Yes, I want to say the railers made it at three, two game and I think the penalty shot Kyle could have tied things up. I just worked to or maybe it was for to so it would have given him an extra spark down the stretch. Because actually, member, when Cole War took the pocket he threw it up in the ear. Tis The like WHO's the king? Well, you know, and I...

...have to I have to admit this to you guys, I felt bad cutting you out of the MVP stuff. This year. But obviously there was just so many moving parts that I kind of left it up to Justin and I and and, because it's like you don't have all day to meet the decision. It's like, okay, make the decision, all right, five minutes later, signs up. Here we go. Go See Joe and take your picture with your plaque. Yeah, so what is the world have been to go back and forth participating in the MVP thing? I thought it was the three decision to just thank you. Thank you well. And Kyle in Providence. My Pa Guy Is Jeff, and Jeff is here. I can touch him. He's next to me, so I could, I could work it all out, tell him what I want him to say, and then he could see me and tell and know that I'm still walking around the ice and don't start yet. Don't start yet. But in that moment and and the fortress that is Iceland a little bit, you have to you can't really, unless you're going to hurdle in a suit. You have to go out this door and then in through this store to get to where you want to get to and done for start lot, oh my God, like but I was like a fire drill every days like didn't didn't feel like ripping my suit on championship Sunday in the first game. Right, happen to the showcase once, different story for different PODCASTS. Pretty will know that that was a Newington showcase for my pants rich, my God. So, you know, the third periods playing itself out and I know that Justin's watching at home on a delay and in my mind I'm thinking more is the MVP still unless they give up, you know, a another goal or so. Then there were a few scores and on mcgwiggan had a bunch of points. To Cowsi get a bunch of points. There was somebody else in there as worlds se Marin has had a bunch of points and I know Justin's delayed and I call the penalty shot save and I'm like, all right, it's more. I'll let him say it though, once he gets caught up on hockey TV. And he said something to me and taxt he goes. I know exactly what you're thinking. I'm already preparing the graphic. I was like okay, sweet thanks man. So it worked itself out great and honestly, just like I had a little bit of Deja vous with the wolves from twenty eighteen nineteen. Now the celebration takes place and the Wolves coaching staff said the same exact thing to me that the Adam and the Eighty Sevens coaching staff did and said, we've been out here for about twenty minutes. Do you need has to get off the ice now so we can get ready for the EHL game? And and I think that's respect towards the other other teams. So let them get things started and obviously the celebration carried over into the locker room. And and give them credit for that team. I think I said it on my call. Their first year in the league was two thousand and seventeen eighteen at just the EH LP level, and pretty fitting in a way that they win their first title at the EH LP level. Yep, yeah, and the creditables your second year team and you make it to the finals and you you know you it's not like he got absolutely pummeled, like they showed up, they get what they needed to do. They played well. Yeah, good hockey all the way around in that game. Really think it get like Mike Cadessa said, he was so happy for that team and like their whole program should be happy for that team, like they wow, the best one, best are the best part about Mike, Right. He goes. You notice which press postgame press conferences have the most views? I go, I don't. I I don't, but I'm sure there are yours. He goes, that's because my entire phone book I texted the link to them. They all watched. I was like, oh, could eat you, just like I didn't expect to get interviewed down here and stuff, and it was a cool new thing that we added. Right, and I know parts of it that I want to make better. Right, I didn't even think about buying a light from home depot until we got down there, like God, what we're like? A little dark with no windows, real dark right across in the Sharedos, for yes, but now I know. Now I know the things that I wanted to do differently to improve those in the future. Right, the first day, or one of the days, we had David Roduzi come in with literally all...

...of his pads on, like let's let's let the goalie taking stuff like this. US barely moving. Hey, guys, whom sorry to a little up. They're not a little bit, not too mobiles. So of course that's just the table for the ehl championship game and I said that the Round Robin Eighty seven slumberjack's game was the best game of the Round Robin. Okay, the championship game was obviously the best game of the week and my anxiety level was through the damn brew everywhere. Stress levels came down for like two days after that. I feel like I either had a kid on the team I had played on the team I was coaching on one of those teams. Like that was your an owner. Was An owner exactly, Kyle, like I felt like we all had so much invested in this year because of what we went through that like we all felt the same way. I looked at you kneel did in the box and we were just both in like this telepathic like zone with our eyes and just just like such a cool feeling and like you know, if the avalanche hang on and win that game, you have three titles and three years. Right. No one can touch that. Like going like no one could fit Chris through that door. But but it's not. I saw even like I agree, obviously, but like Chris just yes, but like good fun. The point is, like how could anyone ever top that? Like it's so drears, like run and like hockey to what we always talk about. Hockey's the hardest sport to Oh my God, he did and Robin, and you can see now that, yeah, maybe going in the next season my preseason power rankings are going to have rangers, one avalanche to of course, se by next level power, yes, but the teams, the teams below them, them, are catching up, like the eighty sevens are right there. I love their Hashtag. Already for next season, our time. Oh maybe therey made no. Sorry, go look at their most recent post, like it's a some moarison what ould like. But them, the Lumberg actually express we've seen the wizards in the finals. The other teams like they want a piece of this. They they they've experienced the files. They know what it's all about. And obviously that game plays itself out and the Rangers make it, or make it to one. Then they make it too, to their power play was BA see, lethal right like like when teams were on the power play late in the week, it got deathly quiet in that building, sure did. Like it got like scary quiet, and that there's watching, watching the men works like and I felt like at times like because I'm loud when I broadcast. I think my mic was louder or it's quieter than yours. I think it had to be. I was like, can the entire building here what I'm saying right now, because it's so quiet and here they probably can't. They were listening for such you can see people staring at us as we were talking, like they usually do. Vicky says, you are allowed, thank you, we love you, we love you be but but it's that power play. Honestly, the game, tie and goal. More did the same thing on three other occasions where he would collect the plot, go through the option of shoot or pass. Five people not know that any for getting the buck. I'm about you. I think Andy and chance are both one power play. One and too, I know Andy like I think it is, or at one point they were on both. He does not get tired either. That that's reasonable. Carry up and then circled all the way around the zone. It was just like any finds. It finds bizarre. On that feed right and that picture there that the hand takes Gott. They got so many good pictures that one picture is the is the week right, because see McMichael diving yea suck was just like and I'm going to compare us back to two thousand and sixteen seventeen again, because that was the final year before the frozen finals and we were in Philly right and in that series, on two occasions in games where a little flyers could have won the series, they were up by two goals with seven minutes...

...left to go, game four and game five, and obviously they lost the leading game two or game four and then lost in double overtime. And then game five they lost that lead and when they went into the locker room you felt like there was no way they were going to come out and win that game. And in overtime of this game, the avalanche could have got a bounce for something, they could have won that game. But in the building you felt like this was the rangers game because they had fought their way back. They didn't fight their way back for nothing, right like. They didn't. They didn't make it to to just to lose off a bounce and overtime like. They thought their way back to win it. And you said this earlier, Jeff Kyle, with the Crystal Ball. I didn't notice twitter live because there was so much going on Kyle, but you legit called the overtime winner. You know what? I think? I was big on seventeen mound drew clo all week and I remember speaking to each on Tuesday. He just felt like, you know, he's kind of like the next guy on the depth chart. That, yeah, I know we have any more in the basoles of the world. But then, and you know, championship game is just going to me just seems natural, like Mauna Roucolos in the mix and he's probably going to be the guy who's going to hammer on home, as I might have broken outst goal on the press of home. I can't see who. Yeah, Mr a hundred points of the pee, Johnny Mau, and he sitting such an exciting finish and I don't did you guys pick her over Oti Winter? Know you are the only one that debreeze. You. Did you guys see his tweets? So we set it up like the the boots you over got overtime challenge tweet. Yeah, any, any hero might a Shank goos melon Ruccolo. Right, did you pick us from each teams and what stuff? Of course, Justin Responds and goes. You almost hit your character limit with that. One tweet because of how long that's last names work. It old Johnny Alphabet. That's what we call him, this Ronnie Alphabet. Every letter in the alphabet is in his name. It is dadded, not a shake GOOS name is not much shorter than Malin Drucolat's true. Yeah, and like honest of alphabet. Honestly, there's been a lot to come out of that play. But I just think that the dump in and and it's Tommy car that makes the pass up. If it's not Tommy car that makes the pass up, I bet you Miller go into the corner does it themself. Yeah, because you have the long change in overtime and he and built the passing that point order the years. You said yes, and the Rangers are they like to do that. They like to stress the play and I'm sure there was some messages that said if you have a chance and you're not, because there were rangers, that we're going to change down in that same play. When you look at the overhead, when you look at that overhead, Malin DRUGL was already out there and he stayed out there and I'm sure some message was if you're out there and you have a chance during one of these changes and you're going to stay on stretch it wide and be as far away from the bench as you can. And that's what he did. He was by himself and you could feel it in the building. You everyone saw where once he caught the paths, it's I are here. We go, game over. Piece. Are you sure? He seems a little nervous. I was getting ready to send you my like my will, because I was like this girl's gonna kill me in something, ha ha. But but pace. What I mean by we know is over, though, the waymen like, and he called me that safe, I don't think. I don't think we knew it was over. I think that the way that everyone stood up and saw where Johnny was, they knew that a moment they knew that a moment was coming right. So everyone was like make the past like it felt like it took a year and a half of that pass to get all the way up. It wasn't a year and a half like. It was a great pass, some Tommy, but everyone in the building stands up and it's a great shot that goes to the fivefole and it it hits you all at once like Holy Hell. The season's over. And the other cool...

...little thing about that to do. We talked about Santa Riello with the game winning or goal for the sevens and his last game. Tommy car was the extra skater all week. He was one body of way he I know coach dicafprie was thinking about putting Tomas Mueler Miller and as the extra skater. He had talked about he was someone that he liked. But look at that car. Stays out there all week. Rich didn't make any changes to his lineup. Not one gets the past amount drew clobound. Drew cl had that shoulder injury all year. You only had I think it was twenty five points in twenty four games, which said he easily would have been only wanted to thirty goal score only I know. But he was someone we predicted would probably lead the league and scoring this year and if you didn't have that month or longer absence, he probably would have potted thirty goals eason. Yeah, and, like the Rangers, could have lost fewer games. have been another name we could have all had on the hey. Maybe, maybe, maybe, they win the regular season title and the playoff championship because of that. You never know right. It all played itself out in a perfect way and a perfect way their depth to like you just can't literally and think about that fourth line to they don't get enough credit. SCHLIFT, key, car, just heitapreme Aw, speaking of Mary and Tom, my favorite people, Mariya Tom was. They worried to meet you guys. Perfect Midwestern family, very nice, very, very very nice. Knew of the minute met him. was like you guys are Canada or the Midwest, because you are huge hockey family, a huge the accents were, oh my God, I've literally adore them to pieces. I love them and they are coming, as far as I know, back in we're back, we're that's a big addition. Go back and you look at all the all the families that we met, right from Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, Alaska, Alaska, like baby's great parents, like it was. It was especially rod when the Rangers worth there. And you know, either team could have won that game, and I think we said it at some point in the air you played ten times. Probably would have gone every other. But when you take a step back, and I'm obviously always big about the overall brand of the league, to have a player climb the ladder from Eh LP to ehl to college hockey and have that kid score the game winner. That's for me. That's that is that is it. You cannot like that is what you want to show video deal. That's what you want to tell everyone is that you could come in and you could be in the EH LP and you can win the endity ward and then you can go to the ehl and you could commit before you're even an age. Oh, he's a two thousand and one right, he's an all one. So he could actually come back next years to be wanted to, but he's going to college instead, to Fordonia next season, and like that. Is it? Like if anyone was going to score that goal. I mean it could have been cool for other guys to write, like guys that have been there two years or three years whatever, but the overall look that it gives for a kid like that to come in and score the game when a goal in the championship, it's like that is it. That's I see on the cake. That just shows you that I can go to the CCM showcase in Denver this offseason and say, yeah, that team wants to start you at eh LP. Okay, this is what this kid did. The year or two you could be in the championship game, scoring the game winning goal and then go to college, before college, before you even age Olt right. So that's playing less years of juniors then maybe your parents want you to right. Maybe the parents say we're going to give you two years of a chance and if it gets it's the third year just going to go to college anyways. But that's what you got. I'm going to go sell is that you could be Johnny Malon Drucolo, and of course if he hears this he'll say, oh, you can't. Like not everyone can score the way that I can score. Possibly, but it was everyone's got that lefthanded side. It was a special goal and obviously a ton of respect from from Chris and rich to each other afterwards, a lot a pretty cool press conference. A long car ride home for us, but for the first three and a half four hours...

I think that the adrenaline was still pumping. For a while we were buzzing, we were I was buzzing. It was fun. And then down in the back seat and I was like okay, good night, and then we stopped and we got chipotle at the red stop and I was still buzzing at that point. Drey in Connecticut would thank you, Sonn it was time to lay down in the backs. Out like a light by's how we're at my house. She was concert but obviously obviously a special week. Crazy that I'm already talking to providence about the details for next year. I already have a call with the hotel in Warwick where we stayed for next season making get triumphant return. I already found possibaby what up right. They already have calls set up with three of our vendors that were sponsors this season, which, when you take a step back and you bring it all in and you to think about it, we've made an event out of the finals and and that's what they're they want to be a part of whether you're you're in the league or you're just assist in the league in a way. And you know, the penalty box foundation of sponsor of this of this podcast all season long. We already have a call set up with them to re up for next season and see how big we can make this because you know, his logo was everywhere in the championship celebration, because it wasn't because on the jerseys on the net, gators everywhere. So just a crazy is awesome, awesome guy for lane is an awesome dude. Sokad story up Ay, a crazy, a crazy week, a fun week. And then when you add that game in, right, another game decided by a single goal and the only game that went to overtime. And the funniest thing that we're going to be able to say when we get to next year's frozen finals, if the Rangers make it or not, there's only been two games ever in the history three of the frozen finals that have gone to overtime, and the Boston junior rangers have been a part of both of them. What it's file like? A full like there you go. And they hadn't won a game before this year's frozen finals. Right, they were alway the three and finals history. Oh, crazy is that? Then they just rattle off. Now give it and they lost. They lost the fourth to and we said it earlier, we'll say it again. The fact that they could write the ship that quickly and then went on Thursday, Friday and Sunday to get their first ehl title. They totally earned it. The eighty seven, as we mentioned, they earned it in the EH LP and everyone earned their way there, which was nice. Yep, they did, and we'll see you. They will see which two teams when it next season. Well, we have a long ways to go, say so. Then again, we still got to get rosters built. Yes, it's kind of beaus. This is protect you your duck swag.
