Yes, as much as we love those summer episodes and man, I know you agree, I'm ready for the season to start and Jake, welcome aboard. Man, good to have you. Thank you. I can't. I can't express how great it is to be here. And Jake, for those that don't know, you're gonna see his face a lot on our social media jails throughout this season, covering all the events for hockey night in Boston. Of course, Anthony Writing articles for hockey night in Boston. His season preview is now out. Our preseason rankings are out and yes, we talked every week throughout the summer. Myself, jeff and Anthony went team by team and I think you're right, Anthony. It felt like the offseason just took forever. It literally was almost a half a year in between pot traps. Right, Yep, so, uh, too long, too long for sure. But the tenth season of the E H ll is here and with Dallas jump into the weekly rundown. It's time for the cruise weekly rundown. The Sire weekly rundown is brought to you by the junior hockey podcast, your home for junior hockey news, knowledge and nonsense. CHECK THEM OUT AT T J PODCAST DOT COM. As I mentioned in his time for the tenth season of the E H L Um, I always have to do this math. Jeff. My my eight because I came in in year three and my first year was the first year of the E H L p. So the eighth year of the E H L P, Um, I think it's I think the team's we're generous to us in that it's a little bit of a slower start, right. So this upcoming week we have fourteen games in the E H L um. I gotta COUNT E H L P, eight games in the E H L P and then it's the showcase, right. So that's when four days. What do we count? The other day. Yes, this week's this week's episode. Well, who makes the schedule? Jeff Right, but let's not let's not schedule. Everyone keeps. Let's not cut the schedule in the needs. I think it's a pretty good job this year. Thank you for the anniversary. H WE'RE gonna say Happy Birthday. We can't have the showcase, but we can't. We don't want to flash back to a year ago. And Anthony nearly took my head off on the first episode about the schedule maker. But anyways, it's anyhow. That's why you did a better job, so you don't make...

...the same mistake twice. But but for us, as we welcome and Jake, we were previewing twenty two games this week and then next week will preview fifty games. So we kind of like dip our toe in and then just then up in, jump right in. All right, your pastor test getting the deep end. Let's go and Jake. I think the toughest part for you is you're gonna meet next week seventy, seventy seventies staff, coaches, photographers, engineers, all at once. Um, they will not be a quiz for names, though. We will not quiz you on that all right. I'll try to make sure. I will be your bodyguard. I'll go around and big tough guys and Chris Cerella and rich DiCaprio, and you know, I didn't I didn't know when I joined I'd be getting my own security detail. That's a good got you, you, Jeff, Jeff. It's gonna be like the good fellow team where where they go through the Copa Cabana. You just gotta get through the entire what's your rink? That's where I'm gonna sit there in my artist folded. You want to talk to Jake, talk to me. You're gonna talk to you. Get to go through the press box and penalty boxes, everything. I'm taking care of our rookie of the year. The only thing is not, not, not everyone in the e h l's named Peter or Paul, so there's gonna be a bit more variation. Yeah, we got some new faces. That's a good, good introduction to right now, as far as you got some guys that have shipped out, guys that are shipping in. Um, you know, got some guys have moved on. You can go check it out our eastern hockey league dot Org. Josh Holmes from no longer with the Walpole express over the air force. CONGRAT's Josh Rice. Yeah, vine killed, Jerry to Princeton, like grace to Almira. We got a lot of new faces, some coaches getting promoted from the P to the e H L, like Seth Gustin for the Water Jacks. Yep, absolutely so. If you go to our about US page on the League website, I do point out how what's what's awesome is obviously you go to the website, the first thing you see is that are toldally a number of commitments for all the teams combined in nine seasons. But it's been amazing to see the coaches progress as well, because it feels like every offseason, like the season ends and someone will say to me, well, who's not coming back? Well, at this point everyone's coming back because the season just ended and then all of a sudden five months go by and Jeff, you mentioned Josh Holmestrom, Anthony, Vinny Calcieri, Michael Grace and the promotions and seeing the coaches be able to use this league as a tool to move up as well. It's just it's just awesome. And then we've seen broadcasters too, we've seen, broadcasters and it's a true league that can develop everyone that's involved in it. So, Um, it's amazing. Obviously, first players first, right, but but off of that, the coaches, uh, the broadcasters, you name it. But let's jump into Um, our preseason power any thing is because we're following kind of a new system this year. Um, this is one of those many aspects of this league that, like, I can never turn my brain off. I'm like constantly thinking about, like something about the league. And well, playing out one of my fifty rounds on the golf course this summer, I was like, how do I make the power rankings different, right, because it's been tough in the past because, especially the covid year, it's all a different episode, as I always like to say, trying to figure out how to balance, yeah, who's played who, and and and if this win is worth more than this win and whatnot. And the system that I've come up with, you know, starts by ranking the teams based off where they finished this past year. Right. So, with turnover, especially, I mean at the years, if we're moving a hundred, fifty plus players per year...

...off to college, the rosters aren't gonna look the same the following year. So it's tough to them say, yes, WE'RE gonna rank New Jersey Eighty sevens as the number one ranked team because they won the championship. Right. Adam Hooley says this team this year could be better than last year's team, but we don't. But we don't know that right until they get on the ice, right. So so we don't really know. Like there's a if you if you're ranking the teams one through nineteen based off where they finished last year, there's a chance that the team that we ranked twelve could win the whole thing, because you just don't know what the teams are gonna be like until they actually hit the ice. But the fairest way to start is to do based off where they finished this past season, right. I mean we mentioned this new system is kind of comparable to what college football does, right, with the BCS, kind of like points projections, somewhat similar, not exactly linear. So coaches don't are getting our faces ready for dark words and it's not the same way, but similar, and I think everybody, ourselves included, will enjoy this a lot, a lot more than the old system, because there were some people that said they didn't care about them, but they did. And you know, it would give us headaches at times every week when we try to think of new teams to move in, teams to move out, and we would spend a lot of time each segment trying to decipher how we would get stuff in and the result in a lot of time and all and I'd be Profen on all of our ends. But Uh yeah, I think this new system is gonna be good and I'm exciting. I mean, like you said, look at all these commitments Nel as far as d eight seven. You're just saying if they can get better and they lose guys like Anastasio Atkinson, Jeremy Connor, Owen Haynes, James Metler, devil and O'Kane. Yeah, all these guys. You lost all these guys and you're gonna be better next year. So I mean that just shows you. But you did win an H L and an H L P championship now down in New Jersey. We talked about that the person finals last year. That's a very easy recruiting tool. You can win the championship at both levels. You'RE gonna get a lot more guys to walk through the doors of Jersey shore arena. Um, just off of that alone, and for those that that do here, it's not bad, Jeff, but your chickens are are are speaking up on the podcast right now. Nash is not here for his occasional bark because he usually, if he barks at all, it's during the power rankings because he's recognizing that things are getting kind of heated at that at that moment. So, but ladies did the power rankings. I don't not gonna my hands. are trying to give their two cents. So, but so to make the list one through nineteen based off where teams finished this past season. Just to read off what I came up with, it's eight seven's express because obviously the eighty seven has won the championship game against the Express Railers, wolves, avalanche, little fires, rangers, Chiefs Ducks, Maryland lumberjacks, wizards, spark in, seahawks, rough riders, Aplical Warriors, Rhode Island, Philly. Obviously Rhode Island starting their brand new season or their first game in franchise history this year at eighteen. For now, cut tough to know where they would have finished last year because they didn't play and then Philly hockey club coming over from the U S Phl. He put them at nineteen. But to explain the system on how this is gonna work is you're gonna get points separate from the standings. This is simply power rankings points. Let's make that very clear. The standings are one thing. These are the power rankings and you get points based off where teams are. So if you beat a team that's ranked one through five in that certain week, you get more points than if you be the team that's ranked sixteen through nineteen. Obviously, additional points for a shutout, Um, and then not as many. Of this is the points if it's a shootout, win, obviously, because shootouts are such a toss up. But then in the reverse yes, but then in the reverse direction, if you lose to a top five team, lose to...

...a team and the next you know that middle pack of six through ten, eleven, etcetera. So, uh, this extra math project. I am gonna take this one on. Guys, you don't have to worry about it at all. I will do the power rankings on my own every day, factoring the points Um. It will help me with with my math, hopefully for this podcast. But just to reiterate what we put out for the preseason top five. It is seven. One, express to railers, three, wolves, four, avalanche, five, obviously the top four teams. there. I'll advance the semifinal Saturday this past year, and then the fifth team being the next best record between the avalanche and little flyers, the two other teams that made it to Providence. So there's your preseason top five. Take a screenshot. I don't know if that will be how we finished the regular season in the E H l. So we didn't post that just yet. We're gonna post that with this new episode. Yes, so we don't have any comments to read on the air, but we can, we can work that in and that's a great thing to Neil. As far as um you know you doing that with the power raking system. gives us more time on the episodes to kind of digest other things. You know, we're gonna throw in some new rakers this year. Each year we've we've improved and uh, you know, we're expecting bigger things from all of us this year, ourselves included. So some more fun content for you. We'll teaser. I'll read the e h LP as well, which again it's we we've never gone as in depth with the e h l p because it hasn't been as many teams. We have fifteen teams in the E H L P this year. Like the E H L P has never been this big. So it's a great thing, right, including three new teams. Um, we can, as I like to sell in my favorite sayings, we coun spend a whole other episode on this. We used to have two flyers teams. Now we have to thunder teams. We have the adirondack junior thunder in New York and we have the union junior thunder Um in New Jersey and then the third new team, the Pennsylvania Huntsman, and in obviously Pennsylvania, Um, but I forget which episode. It was always in Hawaii. Actually, I had the E H L P teams on and I asked Zach Overholtzer from the huntsman. I said this is your final chance to also change your team name to the thunder and he and he did decline on the podcast. So we could have also had the Pennsylvania Thunder, but Um, only two thunders this year. But use the lightning, you know. Yeah, we definitely that would be such a great matchup. But to to read off the top five, because now we can do five and the e h LP we have fift teams, metrical two nels. Love that vision five. So read off the top five. Obviously the Rangers beat the avalanche in the championship game and then both of their coaches advanced to college. Crazy, just the whole thing is awesome right that Michael Grace wins the championship, goes to Almira to be their assistant coach. Beat Finney Cal jury in the championship game. He goes to Princeton to be the director of hockey operations. But literally, I love the title. From the E H L P championship game to college. So we forgot to mention to Gary Gills on the front page. Rows to the Bingham Binghamton black bears professional. So good B B B, not to confuse you, and and and stumble there. M Vermont's number three, little fires number four, and then obviously the next best team at the Finnish of this past season was worcester. Um, you look back at the past two seasons of that division. Um, two years ago it was worcester knocking off the Rangers to go to the frozen finals. His past year was the rangers knocking off us, trip...

...to go to the front and fives. So there's your your top five e h l P. Yes, there's your top five e h l p, your top five e h l preseason rankings to start off the season and, like I said, you can take a screenshot of those, because I don't know if that time it's gonna Finish. I don't have either. I think there's a lot of turnovers this year on both the H L and the H LP. Um you'll see some familiar faces. You know what we're going through. I'm not gonna tell you our fantasy picks just yet, but you're gonna see some guys uh that are coming back right some big names. We've got Jack Bosher. It's coming back for Walpole, maybe an early contender for goaltender of the year the way he played last year. Nathan Miller has since left us. That's gonna be weird because I feel like Nate Miller has been in this league for a long long time, but he's going over to Bab soon now to play for the beavers. So there you go, Jack, here's your chance to take that goaltender of the year award. Possibly, Um, you know, Roman mobbley's gone. I think Jakin. I think Jakin vouched for Stefan Kohanik oh. Yeah, I mean he has an absolute stud last year. We're going to replicate that this year as most likely the starter on that railers E H L team. So absolutely another contender for a goaltender of the year. I'm trying to find fast. I mean I feel like he should just get the the award alone for his mic up sessions during practice. There's gonna be lots more of that. We're we have some special stuff planning. Is the Boston Red Sox still his favorite college basketball team? Has watched that video yet? Of course, only about, only about five times a day. Yeah, wake up, do a little stuff on to go to the best part, the best first thing before bed, last thing when I wake up, helps you wake up and helps you go to sleep. I remember he uh what. He was trying to talk to coach per tony about what he had for dinner. Also, it was that the same video. Tacos couldn't remember. He kept forgetting, he kept forgetting what he had had the previous night for dinner and then he finally remembered at the last possible second Um. But yeah, returning. He was part of the All star team last year. I mean look right there at the at two names that that Jeff I was already mentioned in that. When we go at the end of the end of October to face sunny, brockport and Nazareth, do I just lock in Jack Bosher and Stefan Kouota? Now, for that I mean somebody, some goalies, just heard that in the league and said it's like no, I'm gonna, I'm gonna show you that those aren't the two guys to bring and I took that personally. I think. I think another Mitchell Taylor from the H LP Rangers hl Cam Carroll, coming to the seven. He was on the railers HLP team. He's now New Jersey. That's like the Rangers as far as being able to work goalies. In the last few years, Jeremy Connor owned Haynes. They've been a lot of good goals in the short time they've been here and I'm glad. I'm glad that Anthony brought up carroll. Yeah, but but the Cam Carroll one is interesting because it truly shows how well our teams worked together right because for Carol he he knew that Kohana was probably going back. Right. So if you're an age out goaltender, do you want to play? Right? Yes, yes, three goalies last year and they got Carol Lapierre stepped up and kind of split time with Kalonic when he fell down a little bit. Um. So, yeah, you can't have you can't have the same team right. So so. So to take people through what takes place behind the scenes, a little bit of a peak, right. Um, Cam reached out to the next closest team to him. I got permission from the railers and that next closest team was the express, who are just bringing in Nick Kota this year, who's bringing a goalie with him from the New Hampshire Junia Monarchs, but already has Jack Bosh it. So now take another step forward. Owen Haynes is signed to...

...come back to the eighties sevens, but then Norwich calls and says, you want to commit to us right now and come for this fall? We're not gonna hold the goalie back. Adam, who's not gonna hold the goalie back? So off to college goes Owen Haynes. Picks up the phone, calls todd sterling from the from the express they go back and forth. It makes the most sense for Carol to go play for the eighties sevens because it keeps the player in the League and gives the place where he's actually gonna be able to play and not there's not like a three goalie, you know, battle to try and get the net or you're gonna say Anthony. Also just wanted to add that camp carroll also played for the New Jersey Titans, North American Hockey League team left and he the boys well. But he also knows Owen Haynes, so I think that personal connection also helped him out. A Bate perfect for sure. Look at that. Now back, now, back to to cool honeck. Right Um, at some point during the summer there's the five months I'll blend together just like the seven months season does for me. Um Sean Bartoni reached out to me and said how many wins is Stefan Kohonak away from being the all time wins leader? I think that was part of the whole pitch of trying to bring him back. Right Um. But at forty two wins, I guess I have to actually put the pressing guys on here. He should be listed right here at seven, right tie with Billy's Gerard and Thomas Walker. Wow, so he needs eleven to pass set Millar this year. Also. Can just make one quick correction. Carol did not play for the E H L P team. I feel like I've been getting my goalies mixed up for the railers last season. Yeah, yeah, Wickens Carol was on the team. Uh, and he was just he was the backup for cool honicks. So, uh, I want to make sure I get that right, especially he was he was the first game tomorrow with the eight sevens. He was a trade deadline acquisition, I remember, and he came over from the N A, I remember correctly too. Yeah, I was gonna say like going from the NA to the E H L P. U. I don't think that really happens. And Hockey. No, no. So, see, like even the broadcasters are trying to get into season fourm I'm no exception to that. Anthony just he used his first game. Um, I'm not sure. Does add how the whole banner plan to drop on Friday? Oh, yes, I think I think it already made, maybe up there on the rafters, and it is beautiful. Okay, Um, opening day for the eight seven is at home tomorrow at Twelve thirty against the apple core the first game for Lenny Caglioni as a head coach. I know we're gonna get into it more next week. You know, Lenny Caglioni, a former player. Um Played For the New Jersey rockets back in the thirteen fourteen season. was actually their captain. Now coaching in the League. We'll get into it more next week because he's he's on like the Donnie Flynn rockets. No, a few years before Connie Flynn was more like sixteen, Seventeen time period, first year of two thousand four teens. So that's why I'm like, Oh yeah, but he's coaching like a former player, coaching his first hl game as a coach this year, just like Nick Kota, who happens to be this is your first this is your first call right there, Jake, when the railers host the express at Worcester, that's Nick Koda's first game as a former player now as a coach, and then we'll get to it more next week when the Apple Corps played the express as one of those fifty games at the showcase. But this this is our fourteen game slate, uh to to kick off the season. What stands out to you guys?...

I mean I'm interested to see how this new HC Rhode Island Team Looks. They don't have any they I think Josh Hog is the only guy that I recognized as far as like an e h l or that that moved over there. Um, as far as the standout, he was in the H L P express player last year. So really interested to see how they are there in my backyard over in Warwick, coming CRANSTON. So Um, you know James Mellow, familiar face, so we're happy to see him back. Toby Harris, a great Um, great ownership. Toby, Toby O'Brien, I mean Toby Obrian. Toby Harris for the him and yes, yes, yes, yes, toby O'Brian. Sorry, toby, I'll get the name to the face and then I'll be good. I've never met Toby O'Brien in person. Toby Harris, I've seen a lot. So Um, yeah, I want to see how the new Rhoe island team is, how the new Philly Hockey Club team is. Um saw them last year in the U S Ph l, but they're totally different. Now in the H L. Well, with the Philly Hockey Club. They have two matchups against the protect junior ducks. So this could this could potentially be a rivalry in the making. Yeah, that's a good point to it. Marland to team, Maryland looks pretty loaded early on as far as guys that they've taken from other rosters and stuff. What's see Josh FUSCO and the Maryland Boys too? Yeah, eight o'clock for the ducks in Philly on Friday night and Saturday night. I've heard there's a great restaurant bar at Holly Dell. So that's why you're gonna see more Um night games on the weekends for the Philly Hockey Club. So Um. But she kind of dies yest first, you know, the first thing Jeff pointed out there. I guess now would be a great time for the first CHIRP that I've heard of the year. Jake a a very big fan of the League. The PODCAST US is Sean Walsh, the head coach of southern New Hampshire, and he's just he's so locked in every top ten selection that he came out with this summer. He responded that day with here are my edits like him in like just so locked in and he said he texted me and I hope Rhode Island can consue the humor in this and they maybe they want to use it as bulletin board material. He texted me and said interesting strategy from Corey and the wizards. Corey fully that they head coach of the wizards. The wizards historically, for whatever reason, struggle in September. Right fact, it starts good in the back half of the year, like the year they made a run to the final eight. I want to say it was back when the playoff structure was a little bit different. They went like Oh and seven in September right like, and that was the year that they knocked they lost the junior fliers and the junior fliers from the championship. But to finish, while she's lovely Chirp, interesting strategy from from Corey and the wizards. You don't want to start a slow in September. So you booked the new team to kick off the year. So I thought that was was pretty good and I said, well, what about Terry? He did the same exact thing, which of course I can never say Terry Watch to Sean Walsh Without Him, calling him Terry, Big Board Wall. What for? For for the exit the showcase, when Terry forgot his white board and how to use one that was about five ft wide. So while she was on the call, while she was on the call with me, two nels. So that could have been more of a worse situation. For good old tear to have was that. Hopefully we're gonna bring that back this year. We had coached on Walsh of Southeringw Hampshire on and do some color commentary with me for a couple of games and uh, that was one of them, because I remember when I went a little fire, was like, Oh, Jefferson, Cheez, that's usually my job of ruffling feathers. Ex wrote.

Really going out this pig more there. You know, I'm Terry. Let me have it, and we're good friends now and uh yeah, we all chop each other. It's all part of the part of the fun. But yeah, that should be interesting. Protect versus Philly, r island versus the wizards. Hey, I mean new teams also know that their new team too. That could put a circle and they say, oh, go ahead and take us lightly and then maybe they come in and blow doors. Who knows? One thing I point out in the preview too. I'm sorry to cut you off, meals. We have we have seen some expansion teams be competitive right out of the gate. Pretty Good Champs, the protect junior ducks two seasons ago when when they came onto the scene, they were pretty competitive. Um, and I brought up the eight seven's before the the railers, I think, the spartans maybe, or maybe it's their second season where they that was when they knocked off the avalanche in the first round. So you know the avalanche were expansion team. Everyone forgets. Yeah, it can. It can be challenging getting an expansion team out into the E H L, but that doesn't mean they're automatically going to be a bad team. So I would like to see a team like Philadelphia Hockey Club or HC Rhode Island or either of the thunders, you know, come out pretty strong for the season and I think that they certainly are capable of doing so. So we've talked with we've touched on Rhode Island versus the wizards, that home and home series, the two game series filling and protect. Look at some of the other south matchups. To kick things off, Maryland versus little flyers on Friday. Let's just jump right, I mean go back further. Right, look at the central matchup, chiefs rough riders. We talked about this offair. I'm just gonna say it again. They nearly kill each other and they playoff serious last year, right. So, so why not just begin the year with each other? Like, why not home at home series? We have one today at twelve thirty in Newington. Then they played tomorrow at so no, I mean please stay out of the discipline office with Jana and Neil Rabbit, but likely kill each other. That the playoffs last season. And then Maryland versus a little fly let's just let's just rip the bandit off right away that. Tyler his song and t j Evelina are both on team Maryland now coming over for the little flyers, Max forres former Boston Green Pete. Then with the Maryland's boy was, let's say, just rip the bandit off right away, right. And then some of the other matchups here. I guess we have to mention this. Every year. They have to play early. I know they was that two years ago, the covid year that me and you did the opening game. We were like nine hundred feet from each other and that was a shootout between these two at the EXTON. No, no exaggeration. Jeff and I were very far away from each other, Um. But that's but that's tyler ARRAGO's first call of the year. Tyler, not on this week's episode. He's gonna jump on with US next week. We're gonna touch talk about that more. Where you get the fantasy, um, because that's where tyler you see tyler more involved. But obviously avalanche and Rangers for some reason love to face each other the first game of the year, Um, even though I told them that they're gonna face each other in the showcase, the September showcase. But you know, let's just let's just cross the boom boom boom right off the bat and then I'll see you in November. But like off of that, the wolves and spartans. That's kind of become a new annual opening type game for them. Railers, express I touched them that earlier. That, Jake, that's your first call. I mean you can lead off that call by talking about their semifinal matchup from this past march, and it's both teams that they the railers team saw the express last time last year and for the big problem for the railers that they couldn't solve Jack Bosher. And Guess WHO's back? It's Jack Bosher. There was a three one...

...loss for them in the Semis, the frozen finals last year. Both teams are losing their top five six scorers from last season, so it's going to be a show for the new blood this season. So excited for that. And for the P team it's it's a similar situation. The railers knocked the express out last year before they ultimately were eliminated, so revenge is on the table for both teams. I'm sorry, I didn't even realize. You call the P game first then, yeah, something like that. Yeah, so your first call, I should say, is the E H L P game, then the e h l. yeah, but then going back to back. Yes, so I guess back to the what we brought we started the episode with. That's you just jumping in fully with both feet into the pool to start things off. It's more like a nose dive. But to get ready, Jake at the lossages. Oh yeah, honey line, then always jake. I will I will say because I've done a couple of doubleheaders myself. It is fun, though. You know, just know. Yet you have two great games to call, especially you know they're both being expressing railers. You have two great matchups and yeah, I'm excited to give a listen on hockey TV. Should be a great group safe for you. Yeah, definitely, definitely very busy. I'm gonna do some postgame interviews after, but what's better than a day at the drink? Just just don't, don't lose your voice before the showcase. That's all I can say. Three or four days of just not talking at all and then I'll be ready to go again. By the by the way, I have to bring this up because we're talking about voices. Um, it has nothing to do with hockey, because I have to do with football. Did Anybody Watch the Sunday night game this past week for the NFL? And I Jeff Brandy was playing. Obviously my father was playing in the game. That's fun. I was watching. I told you I drafted in one of my weeks this year. Did I tell you that? So I have to come. I'm so like, we just became close her friends, umour. I was like, I gotta do so did you? Did you watch the game or no, yeah, I watched a little bit of it. So did you have the volume up? Did you hear Collinsworth Ning of the game? He lost his voice already. Liked because he they called the opener last Thursday bills rams, and then they and then they went from from l a to Uh Texas, like you know, I had a couple of days off, but then Arko's now the play by point, not Al Michaels anymore, and he's like, please excuse collins or Chris's Voice, like it basically sounded like he had spoken a passive cigarettes but before the game well, like he literally lost his voice already in the first week and it was like wow, that has a tough start to a long season. But now we played seventeen games. But to get to some of those e h l p matchups now, I meant we mentioned how jake is starting off with in the E H L P on Saturday. That's when the E H L P season begins. The E H L season begins today with the one game between the chiefs and the rough Fridays. A big slate on Friday the sixteenth and even bigger slates Saturday seventeenth. But for the E H l P. everything gets started on Saturday. Little flyers eighty seven's. Uh. It feels like every year it comes down to one of those teams to go to the frozen finals. So why not kick off this new season with that same matchup? And Coach Catron is not coaching both teams this year. No, welcome back, Mike Narrogan. Yeah, welcome back Michael, happy to see you. What's your showcase? I'm sure Mark Catron is pumped that you are taking the P duties and not having to coach two teams this year, because that is a lot. Um, when Atlantic Defending Min Atlantic Champs and the seven's they were they were down. Um, you know, they actually came back and finished it five, but remember at one point in time last year they went through a long losing streak. Um. So that's another...

...team. I think that coach Connell and the boys will be eager to get back and get back to their winning ways too, for sure. A few other matchups to touch on before we jump into fantasy. I know everyone's trying to find the time that we actually started about to start talking about fantasy here. Um, the chiefs kicking off with a doubleheader against the renegades on Saturday at Aaron Zack. Welcome to the League. That kind of they're kind of rivals in the way, because that's the closest team we've ever had to Vermont unjust under miles. I mean we've we just have never had anybody applied for expansion near there right. So they're cool and where where they're E C H L team plays. So I gotta figure out some way of making a trip up there to see an e h l p game and an E C H L game up there again, welcome to the League, that union thunder. Why does she schedule your first game against the eight seven's little whole like Little Home State of New Jersey? Welcome to the League. And then avalanche kickoff their season defending regular season champions. We mentioned Vinnie cal jury has left for Princeton. Aaron Ward, uh, not the Aaron WAE to play in the NHL. But, but, but is there? Is there a new coach? Good background for him as well. That the opening slave for the E H L P. Not quite as big as the opening slave for the e h l but, as we mentioned, a great way for us to get this year started right before next week's fifty game gauntlet, Gauntlet. But I just also just want to add I actually have spoken with Sam Taffel a couple of a couple of times, the coach of the Union Thunder, Thunder New Jersey, and you know good guy. He came to an eight sevens game this past season and he was talking to Adam Hooley, he was talking to Connell, he was talking to uh, he was talking to me and asking about the broadcast equipment. So I was helping him out in that regard. So, you know, I hope that they're an organization. They're one of those teams that can really hit the ground running. Maybe not against the eighty sevens, but that's uh, you know, no bias there whatsoever, but but you know, and and it's good to have another New Jersey team back in the mix. I remember when the New Jersey Wild we're in the E H LP back in the eighteen season. Ye like having a third team back in New Jersey with the eighty seven's, thunder and renegades. It should be another good garden state battle. It was a good place to play junioracy last year. To See if they continues this year. When Anthony, when Anthony just made that, uh, that that comment about the eighties sevens. Jake, Andrew Tremble, the CO owner of the walls, just sat up in his chair. But well, we'll teach you more about about about that love, that love fest later on. They have to pick your day picture at the frozen finals. But I know everyone has been waiting. They want to hear about this new format for fantasy. So let's get now go to the e crew fantasy challenge. It's time for the e grew fantasy challenge. The crew fantasy challenge is presented by bio steel, the sports drink of the e H l. use the Promo code e show e s h o w for off when you check out at bio steel dot com. We will start by congratulating Lauren again for winning this past season. Um, I won the year before, Jeff won the year before that, and now it's time for a brand new format. Before you go into the format, can I just say, Jake, that was an awesome read. Man. That sounds so welcome to the podcast. Welcome to the PODCAST. He's got good pipes, he's got great let us you wait till you see to let us on this. Kisses better than better than most of the guys in the League. I think I'm which someone's gonna Challenge at the first showcase. So I wanted to change...

...things up because, I mean, it will happen at some point this season, but we had a few too many um recordings after dark this past year. We all have busy schedules. I mean I don't call quite as many games as I used to. I really call. You know, I can probably kind of on one hand Um, definitely not as many as the three of you will be calling throughout this season, but it takes time to get to and from the Games. So I wanted to come up with a format that kind of helped us just keep things falling throughout the year and kept us from recording at midnight. So with that we're no longer we're no longer playing individually. It's a little bit different, yes, for sure, because we've had these great individual battles over the years and obviously huge bragging rights to it. But with it being the tenth season of the E H L, yes, yes, there's we always talk about the original six teams in the e h Shell, the o g s as everyone likes to always call those, those older guys that have been around for a while. So people, is that? What is that? What O g stands for old guys. You know what, if anybody asked this season, Anthony, team O G, Jeff and I is really team old guys. We're gonna go with that. Jeff, alright. Also, hang on, Neil, I just want I just want to say something to Neil and Jeff. Neil, it's it's been a joke that everyone else calls you, you know, our fearless leader God. So if that nickname six, I think we also need to give a nickname to jeff. Jeff, I think you should go by General Mills. Oh, I like that. That was actually, uh, I think that was my twin sisters aime screen name back I don't know she was. She was mills. That's what was that just that just made us sound even older. Am My away message back in the day, my typewriter. But for a team old guys, Jeff, we will be going up every week against team h and Ivy, are great partners at hockey night in Boston, which is really a team of four, five I guess you could say, because this week they're represented on the podcast by by Jake and Anthony. Next week Tyler is gonna jump on as well. He's a part of them. If, for some reason, Tyler, jake and Anthony none of them can make a podcast, we'll go to trevor. We'll get we'll get trevor. He's been begging. He's been begging me to come on the PODCAST. If if trevor is also not available, we'll just go to trevor's girlfriend on the podcast. We'll just keep going down the list. We can get Alexis, you're gonna be doing some stuff for us as well. If I need it again, Jamie, we could do that. But H and I v has got quite the depth chart. You guys. You guys have nothing going on down the line up, but I don't. I don't know Jake for for for what they lack in depth, they make up for inexperiencing a top they might be a bit top heavy team, but what are they gonna do when we're gonna Start Rolling two lines out here? They speak to yourself. I I never skipped like day top of the best. The best part about it is teammates and I'd be going to probably have this like running long conversation with like in depth scouting going for next week's fantasy. While Jeff and I five minutes for the PODCAST, gonna be like, all right, who're gonna pick? Call each other up. We talked pretty much every day, I would say. So you know, it'll it'll be. It'll be fine, but you can find me on my just just send me a message on my aid deal. Yes, we're gonna bring back that's that's the the ultimate goal of team...

...old guys is to bring back a there you go. If John Put my away message. John Doing the show crop? Well, uh, you know, it hasn't been a nancy yet. The team H N I B might start announcing our picks on Tiktok. What is that? Oh my God, I gotta, I gotta compose myself. All right. So, yes, team o g old guys versus team H and I B. Hockey night in Boston every week. So again make it easier for my math. I'm gonna be doing so much math with the power rankings I'M gonna have less time for my fantasy math. Um, but each team is going to pick six guys per week, three forwards, two D and a goalie. Obviously one of those six guys has to be an e h LP player, but it doesn't matter what position that you pick. If want to pick an E H L P goalie, you do that. You pick a Defenseman, forward, you name it, Jake. WHAT'RE WE'RE gonna see a lot of this season is obviously a lot of research has to go into WHO's actually playing. So coming up this week we have this home and home series. We have to to give you a good laugh. Two seasons ago there was a forward name Brandon Patricia, who actually helped the protect ducks launched their inaugural year and went absolutely off in the first week and one of Kyle who was on the podcast at the time, had him picked. MUST have put up thirty four fantasy points, something crazy. And the next week Jeff just right away said I'm picking Patricia and I said, Jeff, it's a great pick, but they play no games, so you should probably pick somebody else because he's not gonna get you any points. But but with that, where you're gonna see a lot of also is it can be harder in the E H L P, but as you get to the coaches, especially in the e h Shell, and you're trying to pick a goalie, you gotta make sure that Goalie's playing because at that goal he doesn't play. That's just a goose sec so getting the great for fantasy, getting another coaches and finding out, Hey, who's starting on Friday? That's that's a very big key. So we will let team H and I be because we're the old guys. We'll let teammates and IB pick first and go first to start off this season's fantasy. You guys. The floor is yours. It's funny that you mentioned you have to, you know, obviously pay attention to the amount of games played, because we picked the guy who, I realized that one am yesterday, didn't have a game. So you have to call an audible like this morning. So that that that was someone from the lumberjacks. I was Victor Danielle, yes, yes, Oh yeah, a good pick. Not Not for Zero Games now, just not this week. Yeah. So we started off William Pray, the SPARTANS. Twenty four goals last season, top ten in the league, number two all time points for the SPARTANS. Uh, I'd be if I was him, I'd be pretty hungry to take number one. So there you go. That's UH. And they play the wolves Saturday. Uh Aidan Hoshkis next pick. For our forward, E H L avalanche, Monster Year, sixty one points, fifth in the League, eight power play goals. They play Boston Junior Rangers this Friday. Then we have des Gregory Evs. Hope I'm saying that right right. Also, he's a wolves player. UH, nearly point of game last year. Only played twenty eight Games that had twenty six points, leading playoff goal scorer. Played High Level Hockey and Latvia, Russia Lithuania before that. So look at him. Him and LACIS is the two big guys on that team to kind of carry the load. Now we're moving to defense. Got J J Craighton of team Maryland. He had eleven goals fourteen assists last season and over half a point per game for a demon.

...is obviously great. But even more impressive than that is double digit goals and he led the League in that category for Demons. So last year's all stars probably gonna improve on that this year, I would bet on that. So and they're matched up against the little flyers on Friday. Then we have Aidan Swain, who is on the railers P team. I've got to watch him closely through training camp last week in the scrimmages this week. He's getting good amounts of time on that power play. Had Seven goals eleven assists last year so as kind of a veteran leader on that P team, another year of growth behind him, he's coming in in tremendous shape this year. So He's gonna get those minutes and I think the points are gonna come with that and they'll take on the express Saturday. And then finally, our goaltender. This was unanimous in the group. Jack BOSHERT EXPRESS E H L regular season was impressive, right, percentage one, two goals against, three shutouts, but the dude was unconscious in the playoffs. Nine seven. So I mean, what better choices could we make? And I think it's gonna be a rough week for team o G. Well, well, I I have to follow up comments to that. So so, yes, and and and Jake is immediately putting himself in a tough position because while calling the railers, he will be calling against his fantasy goalie. So to feel his energy during that broadcast it's going to be very interesting to follow. So I am gonna be tuned in to hear how loud a Jack Bosh a safe call will sound this weekend. Um But then also you mentioned Gregory Yevs. I think that he pronounced it right, but we're gonna go to Anthony and Jeff for that. I think. I think it is. I would say I call him gregoryevs. Gregorys, Gregor yevs is what I said. Yeah, yeah, I think I remember him saying Gregor Yevs, but last year I looked up the lab vian pronunciation, so I think I'm safe. Okay. So what did you say? Gregor yevs? Gregory EVs. Yeah, Gregory. Yea, I will still messes up, but I bring up this picture now so that if he pulls back, if he brings back the Austin Matthews celebration again, you got to ask him about this. The goal point? Yes, I mean I think he did. I mean this was in a shootout. You can see the wolves going behind him, so he must have skated halfway up the ice and then pointed back in the goal. He's pretty close to the wolves net in this picture. So uh, it's a very confident guy the wolves last season to put them on the spot. This season. They were dynamic in the shootout between between him and Joe Lenski's and Declen House. They were excellent in the shootouts, so we'll see if they are this year. Jeff, do you want to? You want to do the team O G picks for us? At least start them. I was saying, we want to do it together. What do we want to do here? Let's go old guys. You want to? You want to? You want to start with with Dallas, the Old Dallas Tomato from the Connecticut rough riders, a returner. Expecting big things out of this week there, Dallas. So, uh, you know, and also I think Dallas is expecting big things out of himself. Right he loses Colin Bella. Those guys were on the line last year at points and times and uh, he's a good producer. He's a Colorado Kid. Um. So we're that's someplace that we're trying to grow the game and we've gotten a lot of a good amount of guys from Colorado recently. Tomato, fifty four points. It's more than I remember, you know, the last year. Eighteen goals, thirty six assists and forty four games. So I mean not playing with Colin Bella will be something to watch that. There's nothing, there's nothing to take away from Dallas, but but not playing with Colin Bella, who could score at will from anywhere on the ice. Basically, having watched the rough riders this past season, I think tomato will be just fine. He he himself is a good hockey player and I...

...think he should um at the very least get close to last season's point total. Right. One thing that Jeff does very well when it comes to the announcing fantasy picks is not staying in order. So, Jeff, why don't you announce our defense and next from the rough Roend, because I literally just said that. Pulled up literally on my phone. There is we know each other too well, we worked together for too long. And here comes Kieren Chung from from England. I can't do accents very well, but Karen's from England. We Love Kiaren and uh get thirty five points and thirty nine games that she's a great mate of England. And Uh now kieren is. He's a very, very good guy on the back end. Another guy we talked about goaltender of the year last year. Maybe someone that could be up there for defense for the year. He's only eighteen years old. It's not a huge kid either. It's like nine he's listed at Um, but had thirty five points and thirty nine games last year for coach Brown and coach Lynn, Um so, Oh and I'm pretty sure a lot of those came on a power play too. He was a guy that we all picked last year for the power play points, because you get extra points there. But we don't want to give any secrets away to his young bucks tell too many uh of our secrets of how we got our individual hardware previous years. But showing defenseman I I still it's still hard to believe that he's only an o four right. And I said that to Eric Lynn and Stephen Brown when I had them on for the last team of the week feature. That wasn't that that long ago, that was last week, Um and there. And their hopes for Kieran is this another solid season, two solid years in the e h l and then truly their vision for the four season is to hopefully get Karen to move up to the U S H L team Um in Cedar rapids. So we're gonna start with two rough riders. They obviously have that home and home series with the chiefs. To get to the forwards. We mentioned one of these names earlier Max Morris, who played Rangers E H L p this past season helped them win the e H L P chanship, heading down with his brother, UH Sebastian Morris. Maybe we should have picked him for the other other ded Jeff, but we had to get a picture too. By the way, is up to a picture of Dan Hickling the trophy hardware there? Oh yeah, it's a good picture. I mean he was excellent for them this past season. Truthfully, for me, what what stands out even more was the hat trick that he scored at the e h LP all star game. Um, I think most of those goals were in the third period too, but he was the MVP of that e h lp all star Games. So we're gonna go with him up front and then we'll wrap up the forwards with a former rough rider in Dominic Sabatano, who moved over to protect during the season this past season. Um, he actually probably to that you put up fifty or sorry, sixty points during his time with the rough riders and then in nine games with protect rap up the year, he had six points. So Uh Jeff and I are hoping that three games equals buckets of points for seven a tonnel to start this thing off, but then to to get to our Second D um again, funny how team o g matched team H and I B and O. E H L P selection this week came on the back end Jack Randall. He's actually moving from the lumberjacks to adirondack. He's from there right so he's actually returning, returning to where he played youth hockey and he's bringing the experience of being in the last two frozen finals. Lumberjacks have made the frozen finals the last two years in the E H L p. So I don't know if they've officially given him the C yet for Adirondack, but I would imagine he's kind of the de facto captain as as the biggest veteran for that that thunder team. So we're happening to use that. That's that's massive. Good for them. Uh. And then in goal, I mentioned earlier Kohonic and Bost her trying to pendel themselves in already for the e h l All Star College series. Mat over, MATC GOVER is...

...screaming. What about me? Also a great question for Jake when he gets the chance to to interview. Go over and I know I've said this to he is a tremendous goalie, but we've him and I have golfed together like he is out of this world on the golf course, like he he could, he could play in college, like he could play Division One in college. I I think I'm a pretty good golfer at a six handicap. Right when I play golf of this guy, like it's not even like fair, like it's a it is a different sound off the club and it's like you know how they have the tracker when you watch it on TV, like it's straight, straight every single time. But he, you know, he was huge for the wizards this past season. Early on the wizards like to go one on one, use all three of their goals in a row. But then, as the season progressed, go over became like the guy for them, especially in that express series Um this past season, which included the longest game in E H L history. As good as Jack Bosher wasn't that series, Matt cover was right there with him. I think there was a two to one game and he had sixties something plus saves in that game. So Hey, you know, Ron Island, if you want to just pour on sixties shots right into the chest of over this weekend. You know, you know Jeff and I. We won't be opposed to that, so we won't actually know. It's funny too, Neil. They actually both shared that cookie dough love right, we talked about it last year. Mac over's nickname is cookie dough. He hasn't on his helmet. I'm not sure if he's changing the helmet for this year. Jack Boscher told me at the frozen finals inside he eats cookie dough every night before a start. And if you see Jack Boshers, the kid is he's spelled. He's not a big kid. And I'm like, how do you eat cookie dough? Melissa, the expressed billet mom says, Oh, yeah, Jack loves this cookie dough, Yep. And I'm like how do you eat cookie dough and massive amounts like that every night and then you go out and, you know, put up one point, one, one goals against for the yearage. So I add you do that when you train, when you train as hard as Jack Fosher, it's it's easier to get away with eating cookie dough if you're just broadcasting or, you know, sitting down at a computer for work. I don't think you can really get away with eating that much cookie dough, you know, before the Game Day. So it would be an interesting challenge for us to eat cookie dough before every episode of the podcast. But that doesn't for fantasy. That doesn't for fantasy. This week for fantasy it's a little bit easier for us to kind of pick from twenty two games. Next week we have to figure out how to pick from those fifty showcase games, but we'll get to next week next week. For now let's get to what to watch for it before we wrap things up, here's what you watch for this week in the show. What to watch for is presented by hockey TV, the official streaming platform for your E H L and E H L P action through the two two thousand twenty three season. One game a piece. Pick one game apiece to watch for this week and if you want to, you can pick the games that you'RE gonna call. I'm totally fine with that because I'm not calling any games. I'll take the annual rangers abs just to see where those guys are at. Sorry, I just take your pick. You took mine too. You can you can pick. You can pick the game that you're calling if it's easier for you, honestly, you can. It's a good plug to get people to tune in and listen to your first game. Yeah, well, that's a good decision in itself, I guess, but my original think was gonna be the junior rangers at a Lanche game. I'm excited to see the debut of Michael Bachto in the in the E H L after being the peace top scorer. So that's what I'm looking out for. He's got some championship history now, so sure he wants to bring that experience to B J R um. But yeah, definitely tune into those express rallies games. I hate it's a pretty cool guy calling them. Interesting thing, though, about Mike Baschetto. He did not score a single goal in the postseason until...

...they had that last round robin game that didn't really mean anything and I spoke because Chris Russo was the color commentator and we had said maybe that gets his confidence up now that he got a puck in the net getting ready for the championship game. And sure enough he scores the overtime winning goal to win the championship early two. Yes, it was like a minute, second and a half minute minute change. Um, Anthony, as your game to watch the banner afternoon, I mean the eight seven is are always must watch. But for for the sake of some people. Hey, Andrew Trembull, love you, but I'm gonna pick a different potential rivalry. I said it earlier in the podcast. I want to see how the protect junior ducks in Philadelphia hockey club will square up against each other. They're facing each other twice before the showcase and, like I said, this really could be a a fun rivalry in the in the making. Jeff, you want to wrap us up? Yeah, let's do it. Ready, t Maryland's PLF. We got. We got a lot of familiar faces to the Philadelphia little flyers we talked about earlier. Neil, you mentioned it. Tyler, his song, T J Amelino. We're Maryland colors now. So what's that gonna look like? And then just looking at the flyers, I mean, uh, the Philadelphia little flyers that is. They've got some guys that moved up right. We got Johnny Lee, johnny dangerously, we talked about last year the podcast. He's on the H L now. UH, Kobe, Howatt remember Caleb CAF kart another guy. Remember Shane Green's back. Nicholas McKay moved up as well. Nick McKay, Yep, there's Ano little Louis Finnigan, I believe, moved up. I remember him from last year. Ronnie VITRUCCI. I mean they lose Joey Henson, right, Joey Henson goes to fairs state. Congratulations to h yeah and fair states and not a team to be taken lightly. A lot of people don't know them that are not massive puckead fans like us, but as a serious, serious, uh, college hockey school and fair estate. So, Um, what are they gonna look like with the that's another team that we've talked about. All these other teams that have had Greek goaltending. Brendan Brawley is still up there in the all time wins. Joey Henson was great. Uh. There's been a lot of guys who walked through those doors. So now who's next? There is that Louie Finnigan is Ronnie Petrucci. Um, you know, can can downs take the step up? Can we take the step up? I think they will. And then, you know, can his song in Avellino maybe put a puck bass past some of their old teammates and maybe do a little a little drive by the bench. Hey, guys, good to see. Uh, I don't know what we'll see. Let's see some great games to watch, a great slate to start off the season. Uh. Finally, guys, let's drop the PUCK. Thanks for listening to the show and learn more at Eastern Hockey League Dot Org and follow us on Facebook, twitter, instagram and Youtube.
