EHL 10th Anniversary Team of the Week (Railers) | Episode 119

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

On this week's episode of the #EShow we feature a team fresh off their third season in the EHL, and easily their best year in franchise history. After winning just seven games in their inaugural campaign, the Railers increased their win total up to 18 in the 2020-21 season, and then this past year won 28 regular season games and made a playoff run that took them all the way to Semi-Final Saturday at the 2022 Frozen Finals. Sean Bertoni joins the podcast (1:26) to discuss the step that his program took this year, and how the bar has now been set for years to come. Despite the short history to go off of, the #ECrew comes together (14:25) later in the podcast to keep moving along with our Top 10 selections, as we create our list of the best Railers of all-time.

On this week's episode we feature a team fresh off their third season in the EHL and easily their best year in franchise history. After winning just seven games and their inaugural campaign, the railers increase their wind total up to eighteen in the two thousand two thousand and twenty one season and then this past year, one hundred and twenty eight regular season Games and made a playoff run that took them all the way to semi final. Saturday at the two thousand and twenty two frozen finals, Sean Ber Toni joins the PODCAST, as discussed the step that is program took this year and how the bar has now been set for years to come, despite the short history to go off of. The e crew comes together later in the podcast to keep moving along with our top ten selections as we create our list of the best railers of all time, joined now by Sean Breton. Only that had coach of the railers junior hockey club and the two thousand and twenty two ehl coach of the year. How's it going, Sean? Good? How you doing, Mil I'm doing well. Thanks coming back on the PODCAST. You heard that introduction when you first found out that you were the two thousand one, D and twenty two coach the year. What was your first reaction? humbling. Wow. You know that's not an individual award, it's Organizational Award and, as you know, you can't do it without a great group of young men and that's what I had. So the credit goes to a lot of people within our organization and, more importantly, our players. That came during the postseason, right before the postseason started. How did you find out this? Someone send it to you. Did you did you watch the award show we were actually having a team lunch. We're having a team launch and Jonathan Heife gave a big a coach congratulations and ironically it was my birthday as well. It was special. It was great. Obviously it's rewarding, a great thing to be voted by your peers. We have, we have a great group of guys in this league, so I couldn't be you know, I was extremely happy, but again, it's such a an organizational award and you know, the credit goes to the players. Yeah, and it comes at the end of over towards the end of your third season as a program and you've actually been with the team since its inception. You were actually ehlp coach the first year. Two years as the head coach of the EHL team. Does it feel like it's been just three years? Doesn't feel like more time has passed? It doesn't. It's you know, we've come so far in a short period of time and we're going to continue to work one step forward and work our way to the top and you know, as you know, we have very high expectations of ourselves. But I've learned so much within these three years, especially from coach and deaf and what we're the culture we trying to develop from year one and we're moving in the right direction. So, but now it's definitely felt like one than three years. Or three years have flown by, for sure, and it's been a little over a month since the finals ended, so it's given you some...

...time to kind of decompress and look back. Obviously disappointing end for your team to reach semi finals Saturday, but with a month passing, have you been able to find the positives when looking back on the end of the season? Yeah, yeah, so we had such such a great culture. We have a great culture. You know, obviously was it was emotional loss and to the year. You know, we felt we eat ourselves. You know, credit goes to Walpole, but no, obviously we were in the box a lot and it killed us. But you know, the culture we built in the willingness for our guys to put their teammates first. You know, it is very special. We had such a special group. It's it was amazing to see the growth from day one. You know, these guys really understood what our mission was. They put their teammates before themselves and that's why I was emotional at the end because it was such a special group, and you know I say it all the time, it was a privilege for me to coach this group and we went through a lot. We persevere, drew out the year. We had a ton of injuries. I think a lot of people knew about. It's like one guy went down after another and we had that next guy in mentality. They all had roles, they all bought into their roles. They were very coachable and you know, perseverance is the first thing that comes to my mind with this team and you know, those are the things I look back on. And let's go back to the beginning of the year. So I mentioned earlier the first season the railers. You were the EHLP coach, second season ehl coach and obviously this past year ehl coach again. But when you look back at the wind totals that very first year the EHL, the team won seven games. The following year eighteen. When this one and twenty two season started, did you envision winning twenty eight Games, four times as many as as the team had won their first year? Well, we'd never put a number on it. We have very high expectations. We hold ourselves to high standards, from the ownership group down again, it's a privilege to work for the deaf has and this great ownership group and we have a tremendous staff, from our strength and conditioning coaches, Charlie Bando, rickie and Midge, to Kelly May, our full time trainer. We have so many people involved in these young men blags. You know. You know, when you work hard at things you hope to greet the rewards and we're going to continue to work hard and try our best and we every day guys seem to the rink with a smile on their face, willing to work, and that's what we're going to we're going to continue to grow and continue to go in that direction and hopefully the winds come. And I know you just said you did into the number on things, but obviously the increase from seven to eighteen and then eighteen to twenty eight, but then you look at the commitments as well and we went from five to seven and then seven to two nine. So far there could be a couple more. Yep, you don't put a number on things, but how do you then still set the bar higher than what you just did? Was Right now? Twenty eight wins and nine of them and that's a good year. How do you, Stoll, set the bar higher than that? Yeah, I think you know, when we're recruiting guys, we tell them it's it's all about the player, it's all about the young man. We dedicate ourselves, we commit ourselves to our guys. We want, you know, we live out our mission. We want to find the best academic and athletics fit for them and we have tremendous resources here, you know, starting with our building, in the people...

...that work in the building, the coaching staff, the ice time again, the strength and conditioning, athletic training. We have so many pieces here. It's it's a buying you know, obviously it's a pay to play league, but anybody that plays for us there invested and we're invested in them, and I think that's the important piece is they're all they have, they all have a piece of this, this railer's organization, and they know we're doing everything we can to work extremely hard so they can live their dream of getting a great education and playing at a high level, at the NCAA level. And I know we kind of talked about this a little bit earlier, but to go back to that postseason run and everything that you kind of endured throughout that with which included two games three's, one against the apple core, one against the chiefs, a pair of frozen annald wins against the little fires and eighty seven s, and then that loss in semi finals against the Express. Again, we talked about how it still stings, I'm sure, but when you can look at the or the the experience that you gained from just the full postseason run, how valuable would that be for the entire organization? Yeah, it was tremendous. You know, our ownership let us head down to providence early, which was a great experience for our guys. We had a lot of fun just getting on that ice surface, playing in that building, working on some things and our guys returning a chip on their shoulder for next year, right, and we know we got to prepare. We're going to prepare harder and you know you can execute if you don't prepare. So guys are working right now. They all have strength and conditioning coaches and were where. We are all in this together and trying to get better every day. But it was such a great experience down in province. You know very well run and our guys like that locker room. They're going to have a lot of memories for sure, and let's start talking about some of these individual players. First, a kid that could return, Stefan Kohanak. I'm sure he'll be on our list of top ten when I bring the e crew on. Obviously actually went in the book, says the goaltender with the most shutouts and postseason in one postseason history when he had three. Multiple Year guy for you can just talk about how much of an anchor he's been for your program. Yes, that's a Gamer. We push him and we push him. He knows we want to get the best out of him. He was tremendous year one with us and he was the reason we won the amount of games we did. Steph is, you know. He's got the great personality in the mental approach to the game. He's a confident young man, he's a funny kid. He brings a great personality a locker room. We have a great relationship. So steph was tremendous, especially against Philadelphia. When it comes to these offseason podcast I find myself telling stories all the time. At the December showcase, I think it was the first time I ever saw him make a pile of snow in front of the net when he were pulling him for an extra attacker. Has He ever talked to you about that or have you ever seen him? Watched him do that before we talked about the details of the game. You know, you know stuff. That's that's a Steph move, for sure. Yeah, if you know him you'd get it. But you know Steph. He competes at a high level and he wants to win and you know that. I'm glad you picked up on that. I don't know if...

...many I was standing right behind the net and I watched him doing this thing. I didn't really know what it was at first. He learned something every day, right. Yes, so obviously one of one of many players on this team, this great team you had this past year. Then there was this tremendous class of forage which I don't know if we can talk about every single one of them, but you know the name a few. Damon Dola going off to Nicholas, might dimiskoola going off to con college, Connor Dunovan, who came up from your EHLP team. But the one that I do want to talk about is Matt Po Mental. So when we announced the all tournament team. Matt was the only player who hadn't played in that championship game, but deservedly so, got recognized for the performance that he put on in the frozen finals of days letting up. Obviously a two year captain for you. The points speak for themselves. What about him as a leader made him so special to the railers? It all starts with Matt plementtal. What a tremendous young man. Two Year captain. Most people that don't know this. He played injured all year and we are so happy Matt was with us for two years. He you know, coach of death always says Matt Pre mental is top three greatest captain, seems that he's ever been around, ever had. And as you know, coach a isn't a rookie right this is in his first Rodeo. That is the ultimate compliment. You know, Matt always put the team first. It's communication was Great Amongst coaching staff. The team went as mess the mental went. And you know, he led by example, not only on the ice, put off the ice. Tremendous student. His work ethic is tremendous in the weight room. Anything that we needed a message we needed to get across to the team. Matt knew how and when to deliver it. We are going to Miss Matt. I'm looking forward to see it. How he does a stone help and I think that's a great transition to bringing the crew now, because there's no doubt that that will be part of the top ten. So I want to thank you for coming on the podcast and once again congratulate you on the coach of the Year award and the best season and railers history and hopefully on even better year this upcoming season. Thanks for coming on. Awesome guys. Thank you so much. appreciated. Now, thanks again to Sean Bertoni for coming on the podcast this week. Crazy to think that the railers are only heading into their fourth season in the EHL and they already have a frozen files appearance under the under their Bel but with that, let's bringing the e crew now and guys, to end the interview, I kind of did what I did each week so far and went over a player who we knew would be on this list no matter what with Sean, and that was a two year captain for him, Matt Pa Mental. I don't think we can go to wrong starting with him. I think he'd be on this list if they were a team with three years of history or a team with maybe six or seven years of history. So you can't go to wrong starting with him. But you know, different from the past couple, we don't have as much time to go off of. So we start with them. And then where do we go? Collins, all right, Lawrence, ready to go. We do. They're easy. His name better be on this list. He's been here for like ever and he has worked his way up. I think he had the a this season with the a team, so he definitely needs to be honest list see if I thought, oh, go ahead, there's team the only player with above a hundred games played all ro yeah, Mr Railer, if you will, hmm the century mock, I thought. I'll honestly, er, I thought you were going. David Dulach is the second name, another guy that has to get up on there, one of the one of the few Canadians in the top ten for the railers. They want the American born guys get all those...

American flags on their eppage. America, and it's that song. Looking up on youtube now you can't finish that sign show Erica railers. My God, stuff. We actually we did an all time team last year, because you know that, Jeff gonna ask you. Yeah, really kind of tough to do with two years of history. We pulled it off. Look at us. I mean there's definitely some names on here that won't be on the top ten lists, similar to the other ones, right, but when you also factor in the third year, yeah, obviously I think we have to have the player that you were just talking about, Jeff listed second. I didn't even realize this for a while, but I mate Damon started with the manor clips. Oh, another one that made it out of survived for main, and I mean time. Bring Michael Grays, David do lack. I actually like remember when they made the trade to get Damon and that twenty two thousand and twenty one season. My adest of the GM said watch out for this kid and it was like well, I't really know what to expect because of where he was at. Put up three goals. I mean if Mykedesta thought that he put saw this many points coming, then more credit to him right, but like he was right. I'll admit that he was definitely right. So school kid looks like the Armouth Academy. So he played down in the Cape. That's a decent points there. No, now, not worth Yart. North Yarmouth. North Yarmouth is and is that? Oh, of course it is. Only I would know that does yes, exactly. Yes, North Yar North Yarmouth Academies actually where Travis Roy went. So it's is the rink there's called Travis Roy Arena. If you feel like crying, watch the Travis Roy documentary on Neston. Right. I Made I want made Vicki Watch it recently and try. Obviously tragic story right, like it's not funny at all. But when I looked over to my left and she was watching it, it was like a lot of tears, like I want it. She she was like, why did you make me watch that? It is a gripping it. We just lost Travis for. It was that last year? Two years, but a year ago? Yeah, that a year ago. So do I coming from there? That's that's awesome. They the rink is named after Travis for. They're at North Damas Academy. So we and there's been a number of kids that have gone from Nya to the ehl recently. So that gives us three so far in pimental do lack and row which all three of those players were on the all time team. That's real. where? How about this was the same perfect be passion. What Zig Loo, Sag let's get this today. Where coach Ravan Tacos, tacos tonight, TV videography to an excellent job getting chaonic all miked up for practices this year, Talking Americans and their college basketball teams, when the criminals didn have tacos but couldn't remember that they had tacos green. It is like, what was it the case? Is I forget Burritos? And then did he refer to the Red Sox as a basketball team? Is that what it was? Yeah, where's he frock Americans in their basketball teams? Where's the fun from? What is the flag? It's from the Pollard. No, he's from church, check, check, whatever you call it, chick check, republic, Austria. Just kidding as completely wrong. Hey, I was confidently wrong. Okay, and another Jeff. He did another North Yrmat Academy. Wow, so, which is not in keep? God, that is in made. Yes, okay, VI and Maine and nothing to do with dolphins or sharks anyway.

So I think. I think Kalonic just based on the records he just broke this year and this year's playoffs. Neil Anthony Lauren right, he just became the all time shutouts leader of the playoffs. This past season wrecked. I feel like just that alone he needs to be on this list. But he's also played fifty three career games in two years for them to easily the most decorated goaltender that's touched their blue paint. And Worcester and elwen Haynes turn to to new goalie. All. That's right. He's one of those goalies we get a lot of. We talked about that last week with Boscher possibly being able to come back for Walpole, Chris Jackson for the Rangers, Kalonic for Worcester. But Yeah, look at that. CHAANIC and Owen Haines to DOOBI's to the record books from this past Rus and finals shows you out unbelievable that year. That one shut out by Haynes the final game this season at one the matter the most to the eighty seventh episode. Once again, somehow we always get your jersey. Get it. Yeah, quock, easy one there, but he's also is he a for he's the second goal that we've done so far because we had a lots in last week. Yeah, we didn't. We didn't have any goalies on the list from the eighty seven week. But for Kuhanik being an out too, he is actually eligible to return to so different from the three guys above, go on, it can come back, and when you can bring back God that has that experience that he has, it'll only make you better, right, as you know. To let me see that. I want to see the win total because if he does come back, he's already got thirty seven wins right to go for meet Miller's records. He's fifteen away from time that record. He comes back, do it. Maybe that's a little motivation to come back and he's already ready to crack on the top ten. Duc A, thirty nine, you have a good opening first week. You're already into the top ten there, so just do it. Could do it by the Worcester showcase. Yeah, well, that be something just confirmed September. Twenty two through twenty five, full announcement coming soon. So first another four day or yes, Thursday, Friday stays on it correct. At least this time I know what I'm doing and my birthday is on that Friday. We get is so pretty called swack. You'RE NOT gonna go to the rink on your birthday? I'm not gonna note to you. It already popped up my schedule on my Bentley squads football because game that night to so I don't know. We tough to Hask on the work. I don't know. We'll see. We'll see, commission we won't be offended. Jeff. Of course he wanted to take care day. Yeah, I like to work, though, but that begins a season. We get for already. That gives us for we got pimental do lack row coolhnik. How about Tyler Drummond? Yes, let's get a defenseman up there on the board on a play the curry college colonels in the upcoming season for coach Roundi Big Defenseman, long reach that leftanded shot and pretty sure, if I'm Berkley, wasn't he on your All Star Team? He was. He's been a fan favorite of mine for fantasy too. I remember talking him at the All star this year and he had no clue who I was until I introduce myself. It was like Oh man. I was like yeah, I picked, I got you on the map like last year time. Let's let's do this again. He's a all right, then he's good, though. He's such a smooth skater, slender, free and a little skinnier, but can hit like a brick. You know what? WHOO, you know who lost? He didn't know. On Team Blue Jeff was the coach. I didn't know who's now heating Tyler and at all. JEMERDY has argue for lady. What he called Oh ready, Cory, was it Fullil? Okay, he called him filight by I. That's it for twilight. So to go in...

...straight. First, cassidy just called Martin NATAS Lauren's favorite night cash the other night. So so our coaches and players just, you know, like proud season guides. I didn't go to broadcast Rols in school with you clowns. Ok, maybe maybe that our guy next year should go further than just the players in the roster. Should go to the coaches as well. Yeah, tough ones. You know. They have to get head shots. To me it was I said, don't they have to get headshots too? So we do. I think they can be on the media. Guy They do, and shots that will be tough to get because some of them won't want to stand still for that. Long. But yes, I just thought it was funny because I remember that interview going out and I was like he just called them coach Filight, but whatever, good, hey, it's like my it's like my twilight. I was told me just be confidently wrong. If you think it's like, say it like you are a hundred percent sure that's what it is. Even throw. I'm sure Tyler did that. Really, he's not even five minutes ago with Steph. Yeah, sounds on this list for his hockey prowess, not his pronunciations of of human so so Alat. My next one that I want to go with probably spent the shortest and on the time of anyone with the railers because he's joined towards the end of the two thousand and two thousand and twenty one season. But I don't know if we've ever had a master skater in the history of the League. KB, like I'll bank costky's like talk on his stick or Puck, not on a stick like Colia. It was another speed, another level and, like I said, he joined late in a two thousand two thousand and twenty one season. In twenty two games he had twenty eight points. Like he brought an extra spark to them. Obviously he's at you mass Boston now had six points in his freshman season with the beacons. I don't think he scored against us, Anthony. You called the game, you would know. I don't think he scored, but I do remember calling his name fairly off and he was really good. I mean there were so many great players on that U Mas Boston team. If he did score, I probably missed it while trying to catch up with the play filming. So it's Collyer rous. I remember Cally Bank House gets hell and them that that joke would have got more laughs. Oh, what was the joke? I missed it. I was filming, remember, and I couldn't give up with a hi. Almost missed the only goal that we scored from your cunning belly. You got it. It was close. So talents, new rabbit. There's six so far. Now. Actually we have four for forwards, I D and a goalie, so a lot of variety for us. France who who? And Hang on, but before before we like completely blow through all ten players, nearly got any good stories about the lards or Lauren let's. We've gone to the story time. We're like twenty. Yeah, Anthony Lives for story time. Huh, all the face resolutely. All right, so, Anthony, this one time the railers hosted to showcase. It was actually this past September, and I was so excited to eat breakfast that day that I walked upstairs and they had waffles and they were dynamite. There's your story. Those are that was because that's a real story. That was the greatest rank breakfast. I have never did that. Back Room. They get the restaurant that brings the food top knoch food there. there. They don't bring those back the season, I will like, all right, that's going to be at the like the top of my list for them to do the season. Please put those out. I can't wait for September already. Love that rank food's great. Four days. Let's go the only the only thing about that rank is the fact that we have to call games in the penalty box in one of the rinks. Oh Yeah, you can, actually the other side. You have to call it at...

...the end of the ice. That's the way. You're still you're still much you're still much higher and I think it's still generally a better advantage point than having the stand up on the penalty box, especially when a player comes into that penalty box to sit right next to you. And at least when I was calling the games. Yeah, I never said it, but just in my head I'm like, please, don't swear at the REF, please don't swear at the rest, please don't swear at the REF. It's not on you if they do. And Jeff, for Anthony and I, we aren't that tall, so even if we're on the bench, doesn't help us. He admitted that you're not that tall, even he. I'm say I'm not that tall, five foot eight and a half to be exact. It was not too tall. But those jeans are not your pipe. All Right, earlier wearing is that. There's that put on your roster like Kians. Are just right. All right. You want a story, Anthony, I hope Jim mcad doesn't get bad. Do you think Jim would get mad about this Almighty quickly? Maybe so, Jim. Jim's great, because Jim, you could call him up. I could call him up right now while recording this, say are around one o'clock, right, and say a games at five. He's in right. Give him an hour to get his stuff, Freddy, pack up whatever like last minute. He's in for the game. Yeah, what it comes to showcases, Jim will call every game that he possibly can, even if it's on his birthday, even if his truck broke down on his birthday. Do you remember this, Jeff Yep, sure do so. This put aunt. Maybe you heard car stopping this year was sunk is. Have you heard this, Ynthony, or not yet? I think I was there for I don't think he watched all this. I'm ful you absolutely time. You get it, Anthony here. So his truck breaks down on his birthday, which he didn't know. Sorry, it wasn't his birthday, it was his wife's Brice spurthday. That was sorry, big, big difference in the state. Even be worse, right, yes, like the fact that leave want you on it take the day off for her and she sat herself for letting him not take the day off to go call the Games and driving him to the rink that when he finished, he realized he had to go get her a gift. Do you remember how hot it was that day? Shoes was toasty and he had a he basically put his timer on his said I have like ten minutes and he went on a dead sprint and in the process his tie, which was a tied at normal length, became very, very short. I'm not sure how that really happened, but he was running the tie just totally shrank. When he came back I felt pretty bad because he was rather sweaty, but he was excited at the same time because we had just put the pizza out for lunch. So there's your story at the I'm not sure if you watched all that and fold, but it was pretty entertaining because he was gassed, but he made it back like I want to. I honestly think like ninety seconds before his wife's with up a pick him up from the rink, like it was like bag bang. Impeccable timing. So man, all right. So that's six. So far we have two of the top ten scores. Really three of the top ten we haven't talked about a few of these guys. Might Be Miscola. I would put him on this list absolutely. I'll see January. To Jack Lee, who I found fantasy this year to hey, look, it was wondering when fantasy is going to come up, because I paid exactly he didn't do anything for me. Yep, that's usually what happens. We puts on on the map untill do great, and then you'll put some disappear. You must go. Another Rhode Island kid similar to Pimental, WHO's heading off to kinetic college. This false one of our next act commitments. Means he has brains for Butuy at home. This skep schools, good schools. Not that occuplayers don't,...

...but yeah, some of the boys don't like the books as much as others. But what do they say? Does they call them like academic weapons or whatever? Sorry, there's that. Is that like not? Is that like a sarcast sarcass? I'm like, Damus Cola wouldn't fall into the academic weapon categories. He's actually as smart as that. What does I think? I was gonna say it might be a negative, a reverse pond, if you will. I think got it. It's probably academic in the air quotes Pun or academic weapon. He had nine points this postseason. Just to go talk about that postseason run for them a little bit. What an interesting journey, right, because that apple cores series first was wild. HMM. They win game one, seven nothing, they lose game two. Four hundred and twenty three. I want to say Yep. And then they fall behind in game three hundred and three to one off three major power play goals second period to and then just when? And then went game busters of five on answer like it's just when. You, when you look back on the postseason, say they don't make that comeback. Right, say the chiefs get the balance versus the eighty sevens in the wild card game, and same for the Rangers versus the wolves. You can be looking at a totally different frozen finals and the way you whole say Rangers would be chiefs. Rangers, I mean Apple Corps. Have no those eighty seven's railers. And we gave Anthony a hard time when he on his bracket said apple cores versus chiefs. I think for his Central Division finals it almost happened. Like I thought it was Apple Corps versus railers. I mean no, apple core versus rough riders. No, it's possible. No, I think. No, you're right, it was apple core versus chiefs. Never Mind, I was getting confused at the wild card game to so yes, that you called that one. But like what a interesting journey, because then I remember when we were doing the playoff or the frozen finals preview I made it the point to talk about how nobody had played really more games than the railers. HMM, and then they come out and they just stopped the little flyers in the first game of the finals. Like I thought they were going to go on a longer run. To be honest, that was that was a hell of a game. That was, as we always like the text. I love when Seanber Tony says big boy hockey. Deal rights says big boy hockey. I love your say. That gave was big boy hockey. Guys were grown each other all over the place and they actually lost duelac to an injury. Yeah, I think then it's in and that's games difference. Yep, that hurt them going forward after that game. I think losing his presence was I think coach for Tony said that to you and the press conference after that. That was a huge blow, losing him and he tried to go. He tried like Eg, double hockey sticks, but you can say is one of those Oh, you can, all right. So he tried like hell. Yeah, and you can say hell and you can say ass, but the rest are probably off Li. But he did. He tried like hell and it was one of those injuries that you just you don't want to talk about it, because it was just it was somewhere in the upper area that's very fragile and you gotta you got to look out for that and he just he couldn't come back because of that. So unfortunate. Well, it's just like it's funny how it plays out, because maybe they had some of the biggest question marks when the finals began, but then they come in and they beat the little fires, beat the eighty sevens and and they will probably flip the scripted around to the point where they looked like the favorite on semi final Saturday and then just ran into Jack Bosher who really didn't get solved. It was honestly a battle of good goaltending in...

...that game, because you're Steph and you have boshert. So it's like it's who's going to end up being the better goaltender that day, and it just like step just wasn't. It was it was hard to watch, but like it was, it was a fun one to watch too, because it's like you have two huge goaltenders like that. So what's like you have no idea how that's going to go because they're both just so good in their own ways. Yeah, for sure one of those games that, if you played it ten times, probably plays out differently all ten times. Right, that's so. That's, as I mentioned, seven so far and we haven't named a few other names that we could. You know, I know that Tucker Twardowski was not the team for the past two years, but he was part that their first year. That one thousand nine hundred and twenty season was the year that they had Twardowski. Course, Shane and Vanakis. That was that line that they had that in their very first year and then they were able to move course, Shane and Vanakas for the before the playoffs, the playoffs that we didn't even finish, but different conversation, but they were solid for them. They brought in Benson part way through the two, two thousand and twenty one season. He put your penser. That's right. Yeah, he played a huge role and getting getting them past the wizards. We talked about that wizard series on last week's podcast because I was calling the wizards games and I was the only one of the four of us on the podcast at the time that picked the railers, despite all the strips I got from Jack Joans. So there's other we can bill the other three spots from this all time list that we did, or we can go back to the stats cotter, Donovan and Donovan. Sorry, speaking of one season dividuals who are not that tall, anthony and I maybe we put Connor on this list because he did not I mean it did not make a difference for him. Right. He put up twenty nine. He was always in those gritty areas, just like he just he's one of those ones. He's not afraid to use his body like he'd maybe he may be a little smaller stature, but like he's a stocky dude like he will just like get in those gritty areas and the the player you want on your team. He had twenty four points and twenty two EHLP Games two thousand and twenty one season. Then actually they had a top I remember this one. This is there isn't really a story to this, but the roster freezy didn't know which way to go with him, so they move them up at the roster freeze to the EH shell in the two thousand, two thousand and twenty one season and he just stuck there ever since. So combined playoffs and a regular season in the EHL and other twenty nine points and fifty two games. I would put him on this list. Yeah, I vote for him. Put them down. Words one from the H LP to the ehl made a big impact. Forty. Sure. Is he going on? What southern mean? He has on on the Universe University as other main you know what I did to you, not to like go to off the rolls, but when you look at some of these guys that were in, and this is what every team right, we can talk about this for every episode. Some of these guys that played like a few games that are now populated to somewhere else the HL. We always talk about how the HL's really good at keeping good talent within the HL. But just scrolling down, Jerry Duckett played twenty games in the railers system. Don't remember that, but that's what. But that's your point, Jeff, because when I go on the road and I point to avoid from yes, of course, when I go on the road and I point to the number at the top of our website now for right, what the coaches do so well is they know that that number isn't them. They didn't do that on their own and it was to the to their credit, like if there's a player who just doesn't fit their system, it doesn't mean it won't fit somebody else's system, right, and...

...they keep those players in the league. Like you just said, Jerry Duckett, right, Jerry ducklings on that list too. Both of you were. Ducket is one of those od for you know what I mean, like what do you have got that? If he's stuck with the railers? He may have, he probably would have, but it went you were on a different path. He doesn't interesting one. George Vanakus, he was a Philadelphy, a little flyer, wasn't he? Yep, also played in the North American Hockey League for the Maryland Black Bears. I remember calling those there. It is healthy. A little favor its guy with plof Worcester Junior railer, New Hampshire avalanche. For God, is the ask for a cup of coffee. And what's crazy when we played curry this past year where t had eleven assists for Curry, I guess it's totally a sophomore year. Right. There's that picture from I think this is actually against us, the hickling images picture. I said to George has said can we laugh about the fact that you never played in the EHL playoff game because in eighteen nineteen, when he was playing for the little fires, who went to the frozen finals, went to the championship game, you get called up to he moved up to the Maryland black bears and stuck the rest of the year. Following year played for Worcester, got moved to the avalanche. At the deadline. Playoffs got canceled. Sure Right. Then was in college. So I think it's tough for because this goes back to our whole criteria. Is He an alltime ehl type player or is he an all time railer? Right, almost a point per game player. Thirty four points of thirty seven games. Games totals kind of low points totals where you want it. But well, here's here's a question, Neil, okay, do you think there would be any players that could be on more than one list? So we did this last year. What did we come up over? Could that be something that we do at the end of this even though we probably paying the ass, and do what you just said in Alds, like an all UHL team mixed drink, if you will. It's right here. Here's the Aly ehl team that we did last year. Yeah, I mean Lady's traveler to do at the end of this. But but this is where it gets interested in. Lauren is like this is the list that Jeff and I came up with last year that has twenty guys on it. George isn't on this list. Of this is the top twenty players in the history of the League. Right, so you can't put like mark like no offense to Banocas, but to to trim miss down to ten is going to be hard enough. When we get to this point. I just Caden Primo ever marks just out of this room. Right. We also some guys in the NHL Right now. We did this one to Jeff Rember. This one pretty good. This is the Asom Shell p the EHL list. That might have been one of my favorites actually, because of like we always talk about the advancement of what the HL's about getting from we always talk about the poster board, like commercial. Right, you come here, you start premier, you move to the Hl, you go to college. That's the if you could draw it up every single player that you recruited, you'd like them to follow that path. Right. Yea So this ehl premier to Ehl team is like exactly what you want. But I'm glad I'm showing this because I think that we did this prior to this past season. So Donovan could have could replace Joe, was not on this list. Yep, right, who also play for the rillers. Nothing against what's up, but I think Donovan made a different step up to the Ehl then less not did from from EHLP. But I would put George as an all time railer because he was about that. He especially with the team that doesn't have a long history, right, that you can get guys like this in suffer to get an occusant if he was a wizard or express or one of those teams. It's been around forever in a day, right, but I think because they've only been around for a few years that yeah, definitely, and he was part of that first year team, right, like it feels like so long ago that...

...this team, the first railers team, nineteen twenty came in and one, sevenven and thirty six. That just goes to show you, though, that people didn't you know, finocus, those guys. Court was a coure. She right. Yea. So those those you know what I called. You know what, here's here's another story. CORCH has the court. It's pretty sure I call them court Chesni when I when he first came in. They get a Ketty Chez the INS every time. But I mean I probably just sounded it out right. I mean the kind of does look like court chezy honesty, obviously like looking we're sad looking back. It's pretty dumb of me, right, but I don't see cor shade still looking at it. That doesn't look like quart she to be at all. He just draw a line right here and are a line right here, core chess knee and move some of those letters around. Just get some dyslexia for hot SEC and you know, I think about how quickly first season, seven wins, right second season, twenty eighteen wins. So you got you more than double from one year of the next, third season included, and also the playoff, the first series, first round series, went against the wizards. All of a sudden now you're already wenty eight so you have you won four times so many games from your first year in your third year. And it's and that's what that's a credit to the the Worcester Rollers Organization, the Odessa family, Mike's one through twenty, coach for Tony, coach a coin, coach lowry. It's just it shows their their program right, their strength and guys buy into the building, they buy into the ownership, the coaching step. So it just goes to show you how great they've done becoming. You know, I'd like we talked about with the avalanche and the sevens and those teams all the time, right, how they've just been non stop since they came in. You almost not that you give more credit to a team like worcester, but being able to dig yourselves out of something like that where you were a single digit win team and then within three years you get to the frozen finals, that almost deserves more credit because you started, as trick said, start from the bottom. Now you hit. But yeah, I mean, Jeff, to build the right point, to build on that point. I think it shows an ability to adapt in your sort of kind of learning, yeah, about the league, about what it takes to get to that top level. So you know, working with the eighty sevens, you neon the luded to a coming coming in hot rights from the get go. But yeah, I do think you have a fair point where someone like the railers do deserve praise for being able to make those adjustments and become a top team stick into what they want to do, which they've done from the get go. Coach for Tony's been there from the beginning and he just won coach of the year for a reason. I know the big Mike doesn't like to, let's shock, flash that hardware too much or likes to keep on his toes, you know, but no, that I mean. That's they're just a great organization and excited to see where they go in the years to come, because they're in they're in a tough spot too. You're in the east like there's not just in the HL. When it comes to competing, you're competing with a lot of other junior hockey teams to up here. There's a lot of junior hockey organizations. So to be able to grow that quick the Worcester Railers, you've now cubmented your name and now becomes easier to bring bigger names in. You want another story, Anthony. So for ten minutes since we've had one was but this all fill up the list. Right, summer, summer story time. Right, I got a guy. We just need one more. I gotta get my stories going for next week. I think we had to do the lumberjacks next week. But the first year of the railers, so matt is the owner. As Jeff mentioned. There are multiple MIC anesses, but I might know about yes, Mike like to if it is the GM. If you will my three as one of the coaches. Brian was one of the assistant coaches the first year and when I was emailing big Mike bye to the...

GM, I spelt his name wrong. In one thousand nine hundred and twenty first season. I think it's a mistake that people can make. Rite to D's and two esses. I did ADDESSA and what he wrote back to me. I still laugh about to this day because I asked the three adessas of the time, the three sons, how they think he responded, and all three of them guessed his response the same exact way. Brian, Matt and Mike. Oh it's Adessa, a to D's as in dumb, dumb, and one S as in stupid. That's what he goes back to be in an email and all three adessa's, when I asked them how they think he responded, said that to me. I was cited that exact line to me, like on Q, because something tells me they've all had to go through this at one point in time of their lives school. I was like, so, wait a second, Brian, Mike, three, Matt, do you guys use that also? Are you just heard dad use that so often that that you have that you have to use it as well? And he's like no, we just hear him saying it. was just it was so funny because I went down the line. I think I talked to all three that one day or whatever, and they all three set at this same exact way that I read it when I got the emails. So it was and to this day I have not felt it wrong ever since too. So we're all clear, because it's two D's is in Tom Dumb one still make the same mistake twice? I can't. I can't. So, but savagery. That's probably what I was thinking, Jeff, symmetry to these two essence incorrect. anyways, AH, confute. anyways, we got nine guys so far. You Got Mat Pimental, Damon, dulac Colin, row, Stefan Kohanik Tyler, Drummond, Collyer, Benkoskis, Mike Damascola, Connor Donovan's Fast George Benacus. What do we do with the last one? Because we have D we have a goalie, we have forwards, we have options. Right. Like, I know Jeff mentioned this name earlier. What Jack Lee did in his one year, like the Wolt, the wolves admitted to me they were like, where did that come from? Because another can't remember him with the knowing the wolves in two thousand and twenty nine Games in Games, nine games combined. Right. I go on the sins H I go on an assist. I can't even tell you how many times you multiply to to get what he what do you put up this year with the railers, because, I mean he was one of their best players. Didn't work on one system, worked another. It's no, it's nothing against the wolves. You see this all the time. The wolves have done, I'm sure, other organizations where they've taken guys to put them in their system and they just gell differently. Be I mean Jack Lee was huge during their hot streak this year, but there were a team that had a couple of streets, like it's weird. All the good teams, eighty sevens, the railers, all had real big heaters and they had some pretty big opposite heaters that were heaters. If you will not eat not. Here's yeah, eating up cool as ice. But Jack Lee was was part of when they were starting to write the ship and start to move up with the standing. So I would be fine with that. Lauren, I know you got a lot of faves. Not sure where you're. I mean just there's a bunch of names to that we can go. Ben mcclash and I mentioned let's not earlier. Right. Here's that. Here's one of the ODESSAES, Charlie Dusn't an eighty two career games. But wait, we have ANASTASS. He's still we have drew all of very on on this list yet. Right, all of the are you throwing the Pekick? Because I noticed when he showed the AD black part. I was just any throat up the all time team that you guys do have a little Blackburn on there. And he's Chee's a beast, big name for them. He's another one, as Jeff referred to him as one time, the diminutive forward.

He's knows like how a little guys and like he's one of those like kind of more lean little guys but like he is someone you want on your team, like he's just always in the right place at the right time. He just he knows how to score goals, he knows how to set other people up for goals, like he's just a very well rounded kid. And here comes Neil, the ruin the Jade Blackburn Party by showing US true all very had fifteen points in the playoffs. Man, that's the fifth best pull postseason ever. Like. Well, I hope he comes back right as no two. Howly, nineteen, wow, like the scoring clearly came over from when he played eighteen you. Triple. Fifty three points and forty games. Number of kids so far this year. I have son. I've signed with new teams from that North Shore Hockey Academy. Where is that? Does not mean that it is not that as not made now. That's in. That's in Middleton, mass coached by Sean Tromblay. Oh, Sean, probably we know him. Yes. So, number of players that played eighteen you last year that have signed with teams this year. I want, for example, to keep will get to the seahawks later, but there's a there's a player named Mikey Collette coming to the League Colette Son, nephew, I want to say nephew, okay, to the seahawks. So maybe he'll have the same impact that olive ay did. But look at the season. All there yet not not included in this point. Toldos where the zero he got me when I picked him a fantasy to add that to the elite prospects page. Howdy, fantasy points. You get your imagine if it's stilled. What on there, like past teams are teams, man, that was the another. That's but he has a few bucks. Fifty four points and fifty four games combined, regular season and postseason. Yeah, I think he has to be on there and one of the all the adesses are going to be right out of hello guys through all very hello anybody. We don't put them on there. Yeah, and like the thing about drew also is like it's just one season, right. Yeah, like what could you do in a second year? Now, bring up Jaden's EP page if you could it. Do a quick comparison. Yeah, just because this is cool. This is the cool thing about two of these episodes. Right. As even if you don't make the list, and we talked about you, you still get the spot. Let you deserve and jade is someone that not just because we all his brother Trevor and how good he is, but Jaden is a very good player. The videos this year showed that, the replays, but he's Um. That's I wanted to see. He's been with them since the beginning, I believe. What plus, I think wasn't it when? I think it was when row moved up that he ended up with the scene. IIM like somebody moved up and then he got the sea and he just wore it so well and it's like such a good leader. He's over a hundred games with the railers in his career, all the premiers so far. As a twenty goal season in there to thirty point seasons. Any points clean guy in the playoffs. Yeah, ten girls will come back to wonder if he makes a jump to the ehl by six one hundred and twenty six that is. That just goes to show you the like that's like. We've all talked to jade. He's a really cool kid. He's not him and trevor an't like shy about you know, there's smaller in stature but like they don't let it bother of trevor played football. Springfield, like the BLACKBURNS, are athletes. Jade's a very good athlete. I would love to see him at the AHL level the year and see what I think if he I think if he does come like resigned with the rilers, I think he probably deserves a spot on the big team and they're not afraid of the Connor Mac a leer. Right, he's an oaky. He's only like five, four, five, five. He is coming back. We were. They rechar sorry, just resign back. So they're already used to having smaller forwards on their third and fourth lines. I think jade would be a nice piece that there are fourth line. Just saying, but I don't know the team. So and May and maybe a year from now. Maybe a year from now. He's on this list right, but...

...we just gave him some some talk. He deserves it. Are we go with this list? I think so, unless I won Elso want to bring up like Jadan and just kind of talk a few minutes about them. or so. We have one goalie and Stefan Kol Hannik. Yeah, we have one D and Tyler Drummond and then eight for words and Matt Pa Mental, Damon Dulac, Colin Row Collyer, been cost gust might, Damaskola, conner Donovan, George Vanakis and Drew Olive Ay, very different names. None of those names are at all the same. NOPE, Nope, I'm going at this. Look it. I like it. It's a good blend, good blend of you got a couple of original guys, you got a couple of guys that were there for a few years, a couple guys from this past year's most successful team and railers short history. Good blend. So we've got a coounced around so far with the teams that we've picked right. So we started with the eighty sevens, who had five years of history. Include the EH LP year. Yes, they includes the HLP here, five years of history. Then we went to the wizards, who had nine years of history. Right, railers, who had who had three? And then next week to get the to do your homework and start doing research again, we're going back up to nine years once again. Vermont, just like the wizards, almost an original franchise, came in the same year the wizards did that, two thousand and fourteen, fifteen season. They were playing under a different name the year before. Here's your history. Washing to junior national yes, the Washon and junior nationals with the team that was sold to and sold and relocated to Vermont. So in a way they're almost an original team. The wizards were expansion right. What it going into two thousand fourteen fifteen year? Didn't have a team in one thousand three hundred and fourteen. Technically the water with you in your nationals were thirteen fourteen. So but twenty from for two thousand and fourteen fifteen on. We have plenty of lumber checks teams to go over including. They have one frozen finals appearance. Yes, they have one frozen finals appearance over here. Actually came at both levels, EHL and EHLP and US Chester. That was still be a fun one. That was still one of the craziest frozen finals actually pulling that one off. Yeah, that was interesting, Anthony. You know, will have plenty of next week. I love plenty of story time. Well, go looking forward to that. When we're Jact have plenty of fun stories because the cool thing to is meet you can go back to like the doc T CASTIDO did those. That was your first year. The HL was the first year. The Wild Tea Sixteen. Yes, I also I also drove a military tank to the finals that they went to. Remember that Yukon that I drove. Jeff, we can talk about that and I didn't say I guess his mustand it is such a good job riding that until I hit the curb in the hotel parking lot. I didn't hate anything, the whole down right and I just went right over the curb. Well, I won't be a lumberjacks episode if we don't mention Seth Gustin half, and then Anthony can retell his riding the bus story that was. That was n very lumberjack empany to power. So that will do it for our railers episode. Already got three of these episodes done. Crazy to see how fast the summer is going by. Summers, not even summer yet. Starting to feel like summer, though. So what of the ever done right? So I hate it. I hate it. The cold back. Oh, don't, don't wish that too soon, because I'll enjoy the golfing right now, like a yeah, because your team lost has nothing to do with that. I like to golf. We're going to leave that out of this episode. This is a family show. Lar of the kids. You want to city right now. So thanks guys. Talk to you next week.
